To achieve the aforementioned goal, Van Don has focused on strengthening the leadership and guidance of all levels in developing ports and port services in a sustainable manner, linked to environmental protection, ensuring national defense and security of the sea and islands, and in accordance with the overall socio -economic development plan approved by all levels. Simultaneously, the locality has also emphasized the dissemination of information and raising awareness among state management officials and civil servants regarding the port sector, aiming to create unity in the direction and implementation of action programs.
In accordance with Resolution No. 15-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Committee, many important port and terminal projects have been invested in and put into operation in the Van Don Special Economic Zone. A prime example is the Ao Tien International Port, a project worth 613 billion VND, which officially commenced operations in March 2023 with a designed capacity of 3.2 million passengers per year by 2025.
In addition, the regional storm shelter and Class I fishing port were completed in May 2022, making a significant contribution to ensuring the safety of vessels and developing the fishing industry. The Bản Sen, Ngọc Vừng, Thắng Lợi, Quan Lạn, and Minh Châu wharves have been upgraded, renovated, and had their infrastructure supplemented, improving service capacity and creating a new look for Vân Đồn's waterway transportation system.
Mr. Dao Van Vu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Don Special Economic Zone, shared: One of the current key development priorities of the locality is to build an international passenger port. This will be the nucleus for the formation of high-quality, international-standard services, such as shopping centers, duty-free zones, and high-end dining and entertainment services. When the international passenger port is completed, Van Don Special Economic Zone will experience a major breakthrough in attracting tourists , promoting trade, and increasing the economic value of the sea.
To date, Van Don has included many important projects in its medium-term plan, such as expanding and upgrading Hon Hai and Minh Chau wharves... At the same time, it has attracted investment in large-scale projects, such as: Van Don International Port in the North Cai Bau sub-area, expanding Ngoc Vung tourist port, Cai Rong tourist port, and Dong Ho port on Quan Lan island... When completed, these projects will create a synchronized and modern port network, meeting the needs of the local multi-sectoral marine economic development.
In addition to focusing on infrastructure investment, the Van Don Special Economic Zone also places special emphasis on state management in the construction and operation of seaport infrastructure and services. Van Don is gradually concretizing the port and wharf system in its zoning plans, updating it into land use planning, and simultaneously proposing existing and new routes and channels into the provincial planning, which has been implemented synchronously, in order to create a strong and favorable legal framework for attracting investment.
Alongside infrastructure development, Van Don is also actively promoting its port and port services. Accordingly, passenger ports such as Ao Tien and Cai Rong are included in trade promotion programs and advertised at domestic and international conferences and seminars. Communication activities on the Van Don DDCI electronic portal and fanpage are also being strongly implemented, contributing to enhancing the image and reputation of the local port system in the eyes of investors, tourists, and international partners.
With the right direction and decisive steps, Van Don is increasingly asserting its role as a multi-sector maritime economic zone, possessing full potential to develop into a green, modern, and smart island city.
