Literature and art in the era of national growth

BPO - Looking back over the past half century, from a country emerging from war and poverty, to date, Vietnam's economic, political , cultural... picture has undergone many changes. 50 years after the country's reunification, Vietnamese literature and arts (VHNT) in general and Binh Phuoc's VHNT in particular have achieved many achievements in creation, activities, and promotion of works.

Lesson 1:
HALF A CENTURY OF TRANSFORMATION

After 80 years of national founding (1945-2025) and 50 years of liberating the South and unifying the country (1975-2025), the entire nation has undergone a process of recovery, construction and development in all fields. In particular, literature and arts play an important role in arousing national spirit, building cultural identity and contributing to the overall development of the country.

"Culture must light the way for the nation to go"

Over the past 50 years, all types of literature and arts have achieved certain achievements in both quantity and quality, with strong innovation in form. The progressiveness and richness of national cultural identity have been applied quite systematically in finding ways to build literature and arts in the new era. "Literature and arts works must be associated with the breath of life, so innovation is the core issue of ideological content and the market is an opportunity to promote works" - Chairman of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association Le Van Quang said.

After reading the Declaration of Independence giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, President Ho Chi Minh emphasized: "Now that our country has gained independence, we need to have a culture that is in harmony with science and the aspirations of the people" with the affirmation that "in the process of building the country, there are four issues that need attention and must be given equal importance: politics, economics , culture, and society". According to Uncle Ho's point of view, "Culture must light the way for the nation to go", national culture and new people must be built and developed in accordance with the times, with the new strategic development goals of the country.

At the national meeting of artists and writers (VNS) in Hanoi (December 2024), General Secretary To Lam affirmed: Culture is a special product of people and of the nation. Preserving and promoting the power of culture is an area that any country must pay attention to, because this task is closely linked to the development of society, enriching the spiritual life of the people and the effective operation of the State.

Soldiers on the ideological front

During the two long and arduous resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, many Vietnamese writers, both writing and holding guns, stood side by side with the people, ready to charge forward on the ideological and cultural front. They wrote heroic poems that inspired and encouraged the entire nation in the struggle to protect, build and develop the country.

Through poems, prose, songs, drawings, films... VNS has spread the revolutionary spirit to all parts of the country, praising the bravery and indomitable fighting spirit of our army and people on the battlefields. Their works have become a great source of spiritual encouragement on all fronts. They have left a deep impression on the people and are a valuable cultural heritage, helping today's generation better understand the value of independence, freedom and the heroic sacrifices, not sparing the blood of generations of previous fathers and brothers.

In the campaigns, despite the difficulties and hardships, VNS still joined the battle, was present in the battlefields and battles, had many meaningful compositions, expressing the optimistic spirit, believing in the victory of the Party, State, people and army. It can be affirmed that the VNS team, together with the entire people and army, "cut through Truong Son to save the country", creating victories that "resounded throughout the five continents, shook the earth".

President Ho Chi Minh advised: “Culture and art are also a front. You are soldiers on that front, artistic soldiers have the duty to serve the Fatherland, serve the people, artistic soldiers need to have a firm stance, correct ideology. In terms of creation, it is necessary to understand thoroughly, connect with and go deep into people's lives. Culture and art, like all other activities, cannot stand outside, but must be in economics and politics”. The country is entering a new stage of development, with determination, new spirit, belief and aspiration for a strong Vietnam, with great expectations for contributions from political power to create the cultural and artistic foundation and the VNS team.

After 50 years of national reunification, Binh Phuoc Culture and Arts has achieved many achievements, contributing to the development of the province; creating a driving force to promote cooperation, innovation and preservation, thereby contributing to the creation of a rich art scene, imbued with national identity and integration, opening up a sustainable development future for local culture.

Typically, the contest to compose and promote literary and artistic works and journalism with the theme "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" for the period 2022-2025 had 182 works in the category of promoting literary and artistic magazines of the VNS team participating. Notably, in 2024, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association introduced many works and books to the public, and published 6 books and reprinted 4 novels.

After 50 years of national reunification, there have been many excellent and unique works written about Binh Phuoc. To ensure the process of building and developing Binh Phuoc culture and people, the Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No. 14-NQ/TU dated November 20, 2023 on building and developing Binh Phuoc culture and people to 2030 and vision to 2045. This is the strong determination of the entire political system, especially the deep concern of the Provincial Party Committee for the cultural cause in general, including the field of literature and arts.

Over the 95 years since the Party and President Ho Chi Minh “brought the torch to light the path of the nation”; 80 years since the founding of the country and 50 years since the reunification, when the North and the South reunited, the Party and the State have always paid special attention to the VNS team, issued many resolutions, mechanisms, and policies, creating favorable conditions and space for the development of literature and art for VNS to demonstrate their writing power. General Secretary To Lam affirmed: The VNS team has increasingly matured and grown, making many especially important contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the revival of the nation.
