VTC NewsVTC News13/11/2023

What is 18K gold?

According to international regulations, pure gold, also known as 24K gold, contains up to 99.99% gold, the rest is insignificant alloy. The letter "K" means Karat, which is the purity index of gold.

18K gold (also known as 750 gold) is a type of gold with a gold content of 75% and the remaining 25% is other alloys.

24K gold is very soft and cannot be used to make sophisticated jewelry. Therefore, 18K gold is considered the optimal solution to overcome the softness of pure gold.

18K Gold Classification

In the market, 18K gold is divided into 3 types:

- 18k 75% gold: type of gold containing 75% pure gold

- 18k 70% gold: contains 70% pure gold

- 18k 68% gold: contains 68% pure gold

How to distinguish 18K gold from other types of gold

Each type of gold has a different value, so customers need to know how to distinguish between types of gold to ensure benefits when choosing products.

Through color

18K, 14K, 10K, 24K gold has completely different colors, depending on the quality of gold as well as the concentration. The more gold the gold has, the darker and brighter the gold color.

10K and 14K gold contain many metal mixtures, the proportions are also determined differently for each type, so the gold color is quite bright, easily fading over time. Meanwhile, 18K gold has a silver-white coating on the outside, so the color is not too light but not as dark as 24K gold.

Through sophistication

The sophistication of gold is also different. 18K and 14K gold both have a certain hardness, so they are made into sophisticated jewelry and have a smooth surface. 18K and 14K gold are often attached with precious stones to enhance the beauty of the jewelry.

Meanwhile, 24K gold is soft and rarely used in jewelry. Due to the difficulty in maintaining the sophistication of the processing, 24K gold is only used to make gold bars and gold ingots for storage.
