This old house, with its unique architecture, belongs to the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Khoai (born in 1961; residing in Hanh Phuc Doan village, Dong Quang ward, Thanh Hoa province).

The old house of Mr. Nguyen Van Khoai's family in Hanh Phuc Doan village, Dong Quang ward, Thanh Hoa province, sits peacefully amidst a tranquil green landscape.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Khoai, the house was built and completed in 1945 by his father, a renowned practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine in the region, and is now 81 years old. After his father passed away, Mr. Khoai is currently the one living in and looking after the house.
The ancient house is made entirely of ironwood, with traditional Northern Vietnamese architecture consisting of five bays, including three main bays and two side bays. The architecture and structural components of the house were meticulously and solidly constructed by the skilled carpenters of Dat Tai village (formerly Hoang Ha commune; now Hoang Hoa commune, Thanh Hoa province).

The house has an antique charm that has stood the test of time.
After more than 80 years, the house remains relatively intact, although some structural elements have been damaged by termites, and broken roof tiles allow rainwater to leak in, affecting the house. "I want to preserve this house as a family memento. During the war against the US, although the house was damaged by bombs and bullets, causing the screen wall to fall, the house still stands today," Mr. Khoai shared.
Mr. Khoai also said that he is planning to discuss with his relatives about renovating the house to preserve it for the future.

The unique feature of this house is the outermost right-hand section, where the living room facade is designed with a system of arched doorways that blend Western architectural styles.

The recreated floral patterns are very authentically Vietnamese, with a crescent moon in the center, symbolizing wisdom and fulfillment, flanked by lemon blossom and phoenix wing motifs.

Another unique feature is that in the center of the house there are two pillars made of blue stone, a type of stone famous in Nhoi village, Thanh Hoa province.

Blue stone was also used to make the bases of the house pillars.

Over time, the roof tiles of the house have deteriorated and been damaged in many places.
