Mr. Ho Ta Doc said that around 2005, he and some local people brought the KM94 cassava variety to the village to plant. At that time, his family owned 10 hectares of reclaimed land. When he learned that in the Lia region (formerly Huong Hoa district), the Bru-Van Kieu and Pa Ko people had become prosperous thanks to growing KM94 cassava, he discussed it with some villagers in Vung Kho village and they packed their food and went there to learn how to grow KM94 cassava.
After several weeks of learning the techniques of planting, caring for, and harvesting KM94 cassava from the dedicated guidance of the people in the Lìa region, Mr. Dóc returned to Vùng Kho village and decided to plant 5 hectares of KM94 cassava. In the 2005 cassava harvest, his family earned tens of millions of dong.
After the first successful crop of KM94 cassava, many local people began to learn from Mr. Doc how to grow cassava. Using the knowledge he had acquired, he wholeheartedly shared it with the people of Vung Kho village. As a result, many households in the village began to prosper by growing KM94 cassava to sell to the Huong Hoa cassava starch processing factory.

Along with the KM94 cassava variety, Ho Ta Doc was also a pioneer in bringing black star anise and red bời lời trees to cultivate in Vung Kho. Mr. Doc recalled that the land in Vung Kho village was very suitable for growing black star anise and red bời lời trees. In 2016, when cassava prices temporarily dropped, he decided to continue traveling to many villages in the former Dakrong and Huong Hoa districts to learn how to cultivate black star anise and red bời lời trees…
According to Mr. Ho Ta Doc, the black star tree is a large tree reaching a height of 30-40m. Its wood is durable and strong, so it is often used in construction and shipbuilding; its resin is used in paints and varnishes; and its bark contains a lot of tannins, so it is often used as a medicine to treat toothaches and gingivitis. The black star tree can be harvested after about 10-15 years. The red bời lời tree, on the other hand, is a medium-sized tree with a straight trunk, compact canopy, and few branches; it reaches a height of about 30-35m.
The wood of the red bời lời tree is yellowish-brown, resistant to termites, and commonly used for household items; the bark is used as a binding additive in incense making; and the leaves are used as animal feed. Red bời lời trees can be harvested after about 10 years of planting. Currently, Mr. Dóc's family has planted 2.5 hectares of black star trees and red bời lời trees.
Sharing his thoughts on donating over 3,000 square meters of land located on the frontage of National Highway 9 for the construction of Dakrong Kindergarten No. 2, a branch of Dakrong Kindergarten, Mr. Ho Ta Doc said that in the past, due to poverty and hardship, most people in Vung Kho village did not have the opportunity to receive a proper education.
Seeing this disadvantage, around 2010, when Dakrong commune invested in building Dakrong Kindergarten No. 2, he voluntarily donated over 2,000 square meters of land for the school's construction. Later, he donated another 1,000 square meters of land to build a branch of Dakrong Kindergarten. Now, every time he sees the children in the village being brought to school by their parents, Mr. Doc feels a warmth in his heart.
Mr. Ho Ta Doc always believed that as long as he had his health, he would continue to do more useful things to help the people of Vung Kho village. He cherished the dream of a more civilized and prosperous life for the people of Vung Kho village and realized it through meaningful actions.
