In response to the "National Health Day" program, the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City officially announced its founding and operational date as April 1, 1891.
Over more than a century, the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City has continuously grown and become one of the leading institutions nationwide in the fields of preventive medicine , scientific research, training, and professional service provision.
Many of the Institute's outstanding achievements have made significant contributions to protecting public health, such as: detecting the first HIV infection case in Vietnam; participating in the eradication of polio; eliminating neonatal tetanus; identifying dangerous infectious agents, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic…

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Vu Trung - Director of the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, stated that throughout various historical periods, the Institute has always played a pioneering role in scientific research, epidemiological surveillance, testing, vaccination, training, and guidance for lower-level healthcare facilities. In dangerous epidemic situations, the unit has consistently been a core force, making significant contributions to the protection, care, and improvement of public health.
According to the Director of the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, the official announcement of the founding date not only establishes a historical milestone with legal value but also contributes to strengthening the identity, pride, and cohesion of generations of staff and employees.

In addition, the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City announced its mission, vision, and core values, demonstrating its commitment to continuously improving the quality of its professional activities, developing science and technology, and making positive contributions to the cause of protecting and caring for the health of the people.
The Institute defines its mission as protecting public health through disease prevention and control; promoting scientific research, developing human resources, and providing high-quality scientific and technical services.
In terms of vision, by 2030 and with a focus on the period up to 2045, the Institute strives to become a leading center for preventive health science and technology in the region; playing a pioneering role in research, monitoring, and disease prevention, while simultaneously enhancing its capacity to provide scientific and technical services to meet the development requirements of the health sector.
The Institute also identified six core values that form the foundation for all its activities, including: Responsibility – protecting the community; science – integrity; innovation – pioneering; cooperation – integration; professionalism – dedication; inheritance – preservation.
According to historical documents, the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City was established by a decision of the Governor-General of Indochina on March 20, 1891, and officially began operations on April 1, 1891. This was the first Pasteur Institute in the world built outside of France. This event marked a significant turning point in the history of tropical medicine and preventive healthcare in Southeast Asia.
