"My Viet Bac": Reflections on life and human destiny

On April 22nd, in Hanoi , the Vietnam Writers Association Publishing House, in collaboration with Lien Viet Culture and Communication Joint Stock Company (Lien Viet Books), launched the book "My Viet Bac" by writer Nguyen Chien Thang (pen name Thang Sac).

"My Viet Bac" is a collection of stories, including both long and short stories. The most impressive long story, which gives the collection its title - "My Viet Bac" - is the one he has just completed.

In this work, readers will still see the same Thang Sac as in his previously published works: kind, warm, full of contemplation, living life to the fullest in all situations and circumstances; at the same time, they will also see a Thang Sac who is more deeply concerned about life and the human condition.

Speaking at the book launch, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association Nguyen Quang Thieu stated that there are two paths for literature to develop: one is "literary transformation of life," using language to recreate reality; the other is "making literature from life," that is, entering life, experiencing, listening, and contemplating in order to write.

According to him, writer Nguyen Chien Thang chose the second path – using life as the basis for literature, a more sustainable path because it brings credibility and emotional depth to the reader.

"In his works, he doesn't include all the major events or topical details, but chooses to quietly delve into everyday life, touching upon the depths of humanity and culture," said poet Nguyen Quang Thieu.

Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu expressed his wish that writer Nguyen Chien Thang would continue to steadfastly pursue his creative path, persistently delving into life, exploring and discovering humanistic values even in turbulent circumstances.

Although primarily a writer, Nguyen Chien Thang dedicated his entire life to diplomacy. He served as ambassador to France, Algeria, and Cambodia.

His literary works are divided into two categories: non-fiction works, which he dedicated to diplomacy; and fiction, which he wrote about what remains of the human condition.

Nguyen Chien Thang's novels include: *The Resident*, *Uncle Tu, Who Are You?*, *Neighbors*, *Walking in a Whirlwind*, *Blue Lotus Flowers*, *Days Without You *…; his short stories include the collection *Blink of an Eye with Fate*; and his essays include: *Stories of the Profession, Stories of Diplomacy * (published jointly), *Stories of an Ambassador *...
