Asia is a continent of islands, with Southeast Asia alone boasting over 20,000. The spectacular diversity of these paradises is scattered throughout: on the continent's largest island, Borneo, you can spot wild orangutans; in Bali, you can immerse yourself in Hindu spirituality; or in Okinawa, you can experience the lives of centenarians. You could visit them all if you had the time, but it's not necessary – especially since the British travel magazine Time Out has narrowed its list down to the seven best islands to visit in Asia, with an island in Vietnam in the top three.
1. Borneo
Borneo, Asia's largest island, comprises Malaysian, Indonesian, and Bruneian Borneo. Each part of the island is worth a visit for endless days of tropical adventure – exploring the jungles, frolicking on the beaches, exploring underwater… This trip is especially rewarding for wildlife enthusiasts, who are almost certain to spot endangered species such as orangutans, Borneo elephants, and proboscis monkeys on the Kinabatangan River in eastern Sabah.
