Vietnam and Russia promote cooperation on maritime issues.

On May 22nd, in Moscow, General Phan Van Giang, Member of the Political Bureau, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of National Defense, and General Nikolai Platonovich Patrushev, Assistant to the President and Chairman of the Federal Maritime Council of Russia, co-chaired the second consultative meeting on maritime affairs between the two countries.

The meeting took place within the framework of the official visit of a high-level delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of Defence to the Russian Federation. Attending the meeting were Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau and the Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Dang Minh Khoi.

According to the VNA correspondent in Moscow, speaking at the session, General Phan Van Giang affirmed that Vietnam always values ​​Russia's position as a maritime power, and emphasized that the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense wishes to continue promoting cooperation with the Federal Maritime Council of Russia in a more substantive, effective, and comprehensive manner.

On the Russian side, General Nikolai Platonovich Patrushev emphasized that maritime cooperation plays an important role in deepening bilateral defense cooperation, in line with the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.

Both sides agreed that, following the first consultative meeting held in Vietnam, cooperation in the maritime sector has achieved many positive results, contributing to the promotion of bilateral relations.

Key areas of cooperation include naval cooperation, shipbuilding industry, signing of cooperation agreements, marine scientific research within the framework of the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center, marine ecosystem conservation, and maritime services and transport.

In particular, cooperation in training continues to be seen as a highlight in the relationship between the two countries, including the training of naval officers.

Based on the results achieved, both sides agreed to continue effectively implementing the agreed-upon cooperation contents, focusing on strengthening coordination between naval forces, personnel training, scientific research, and maritime transport cooperation.

On this occasion, the two sides signed and exchanged the Cooperation Plan in the maritime field for the period 2026-2030 between the Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam and the Federal Maritime Council of Russia, creating a new framework for bilateral cooperation in the coming years.

Also on May 22nd, General Phan Van Giang met with General Sergei Kuzhugetovich Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
