The cornerstone of this strategy is the "VinUni 500" program – which recruits 500 elite academics from around the world – and a funding of 9,300 billion VND from Vingroup to expand training scale and build a research ecosystem according to international standards in Vietnam.
VinUni's Phase 2 strategy focuses on two pillars: developing academic and research infrastructure and upgrading the academic workforce to international standards, with a development orientation towards five strategic research areas: AI and Robotics, medicine and health technology, smart cities and environment, big data and high-performance computing, and policy and sustainable development.
Vingroup announced it will invest 9,300 billion VND in VinUni during the new phase. Of this, 1,500 billion VND will be allocated to expanding the campus, building lecture halls, dormitories, sports facilities, and a modern laboratory system. The training capacity will increase from 1,500 to 5,000 students, with nearly 50% being postgraduate students – the core force for the scientific research ecosystem.
The modern laboratories at VinUni are designed to support teaching and research.
VinUni will establish an Industrial Research and Innovation Complex – an integrated research center featuring high-tech laboratories, university-business collaboration spaces, and a 1,000-seat international conference hall, regularly bringing together more than 600 scientists.
This is where R&D experts from the business ecosystem, especially from VinFast , Vinmec, VinBigData, VinRobotics, VinMotion, etc., along with VinUni lecturers and students, form co-innovation studios, focusing on highly applied research, rapid commercialization, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
Along with its on-site complex, VinUni collaborates with prestigious global universities such as Cornell, Pennsylvania, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), and reputable universities in Vietnam to develop interdisciplinary research clusters (RISE research clusters), aiming for high-quality academic publications and addressing major national challenges.
To elevate the level of academic human resources, VinUni is launching the “VinUni 500” program – selecting 500 elite scientists and lecturers globally, especially Vietnamese scientists working abroad. The recruitment list includes: 10 international chief scientific officers, 200 lecturers and researchers with reputable publications, 200 postdoctoral scholars, and 100 associate lecturers.
VinUni attracts talented and enthusiastic faculty members from many prestigious universities around the world.
To attract and recruit scholars, VinUni applies a compensation policy comparable to top universities worldwide, with a personal career development fund of up to VND 150 million per year and a research seed funding of up to VND 6 billion for each outstanding scientist.
Besides aiming to improve the quality of research and teaching for students, the "VinUni 500" program plays a role in connecting the network of Vietnamese scholars with the network of overseas Vietnamese scholars and scholars from the VinFuture Award – which brings together outstanding global minds – in order to create a breakthrough impetus for substantive and impactful collaborative research activities.
