La Son Highway accident

The journey to celebrate happiness turned into tragedy.

The chain collision involving three passenger buses on the La Son - Tuy Loan expressway (in Hoa Bac commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang city) on the afternoon of May 30th was determined by authorities to have started when a 50-seat passenger bus overtook a 16-seat vehicle on the La Son - Tuy Loan expressway , colliding with a car traveling in the opposite direction, and then hitting the 16-seat vehicle, causing it to overturn. The chain collision resulted in one fatality and four seriously injured passengers.

On the evening of May 30th, Dr. Le Duc Nhan, Director of Da Nang Hospital, stated that the hospital had received 13 victims from the serious accident that occurred on the La Son - Tuy Loan expressway that afternoon.

According to Doctor Nhan, all the victims admitted to the hospital suffered multiple injuries, with one patient sustaining serious injuries.

"Thirteen victims were taken to the hospital for examination. One seriously ill patient is being treated in the surgical intensive care unit, two patients were transferred to the operating room for wound suturing, and the rest suffered minor abrasions," Dr. Nhan reported.

As of 5 PM on May 30th, the Fire and Rescue Police force of Da Nang City Police were still working to clear the scene of the accident on the highway.

Taken to the Emergency Department of Da Nang Hospital for emergency treatment, Mr. NTG (28 years old, residing in Da Nang City) was still in shock after the unexpected accident that caused casualties. Mr. G. said that all the victims in the 16-seater vehicle were colleagues from the same company as him.

The victims injured in the accident are receiving emergency treatment at Da Nang Hospital.

According to Mr. G, on the morning of May 30th, he and 15 other people from his company rented a car to travel to Thua Thien Hue province to attend a wedding and congratulate a colleague. After the reception, at noon the whole group boarded a 16-seater vehicle to return to Da Nang City.

"After the bus had been traveling for over an hour, we reached Da Nang. While I was dozing off, I suddenly heard a loud bang… the bus swerved and overturned. At that moment, everyone trapped inside screamed and tried to break open the doors to escape," Mr. G recalled.

This afternoon, May 30th, Mr. Le Trung Chinh (second from the right), Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City and Head of the Traffic Safety Committee of Da Nang City, visited the victims injured in the traffic accident.

According to Mr. G., after everyone had helped each other get out of the car, Ms. DPT was still lying motionless inside. Her colleagues tried to pull her out, calling out to her repeatedly, but Ms. T. did not move.

"Ms. T. was sitting in the second row of seats. When her colleagues tried to get her out, she didn't move. I knew something bad had happened," Mr. G said, his voice choked with emotion.

Suffering injuries to her head and left hand, Ms. D.TTB (27 years old, residing in Da Nang) is being monitored by doctors at the Emergency Department of Da Nang Hospital. Ms. B. stated that when she was rescued from the 16-seater passenger bus, she was dizzy and fainted, so she did not know that her female colleague had tragically perished on the La Son - Tuy Loan expressway.

This afternoon, May 30th, Mr. Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee and Head of the Da Nang City Traffic Safety Committee, along with a delegation, visited Da Nang Hospital to inquire about the injuries sustained in the multi-vehicle traffic accident involving two passenger buses on the Ho Chi Minh Highway section between La Son and Tuy Loan.

As Thanh Nien newspaper reported, in the early afternoon of May 30th, driver Nguyen Van Tuan (43 years old, residing in Lam Dong province) was driving a sleeper bus with license plate 73F-000.63 carrying 42 people on the La Son - Tuy Loan route in the direction of Thua Thien Hue - Da Nang. Upon reaching Km 61+400 (in Hoa Vang district, Da Nang city), driver Tuan overtook a 16-seater car with license plate 43B-043.94 driven by Ho Phuoc Tu (40 years old, Cam Le district, Da Nang city) (with 15 people on board) traveling in the same direction ahead.

As the sleeper bus was overtaking, it collided with a truck with license plate 85H - 009.64 driven by Nguyen Xuan Ke (43 years old, residing in Ninh Thuan province) traveling in the opposite direction. Following this, the bus driven by Tuan collided with a 16-seater vehicle carrying a wedding party, causing the latter to overturn and resulting in the accident. Consequently, Ms. DPT (25 years old, from Binh Dinh province) died on the spot, and several others were injured. The accident on the La Son - Tuy Loan expressway is currently under investigation by the authorities.
