On the morning of May 21st, during a patrol and raid targeting illegal gold mining activities in the Khe Bun area, A Luoi 1 commune, Hue City, authorities discovered over 1,000 meters of water pipes and 3 gold panning trays used for illegal gold mining.

The task force destroyed all of the equipment.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, Chairman of the People's Committee of A Luoi 1 commune, also stated that on May 19th, functional forces discovered two makeshift camps erected along the stream bank, along with tools used for illegal gold mining and panning, in the Khe Bun area.

In the Li Leng ravine area, authorities also discovered three other makeshift camps along with seven people illegally digging and panning for gold.

Upon spotting the patrol team, the suspects fled into the forest. Subsequently, the task force dismantled five makeshift camps and destroyed the gold panning equipment.

Recently, several "hot spots" of illegal alluvial gold mining have emerged in A Lưới 1 commune, concentrated in the Khe Bùn and Khe Li Leng areas.

Those involved in manual gold mining and panning, combined with the use of machinery, set up temporary camps in the forest, operating in small groups of 3-6 people, frequently moving their mining locations and mainly operating at night or early morning to avoid detection by law enforcement.

The suspects fled into the deep forest, leaving behind their tools used for illegal gold mining.

“The authorities have organized many raids, but the vast area, the rugged mountainous terrain, the deep forest areas where logging takes place, far from residential areas, and the difficult access have greatly hindered inspection work. Meanwhile, illegal logging activities are small-scale and scattered, with perpetrators frequently changing locations and operating mainly at night, making detection and handling difficult,” Mr. Hai said.

Currently, local authorities are coordinating with relevant agencies to strengthen the dissemination of laws on mineral resources to the people, especially in areas at high risk of illegal mining, in order to raise awareness and promote compliance with the law.

At the same time, organize regular and unscheduled inspections and patrols in key areas and border areas to promptly detect, prevent, and strictly handle violations in accordance with regulations.
