As the locality with the largest area of spring crops in Ha Tinh province, Cam Xuyen district is focusing on land consolidation and developing irrigation systems in the fields, preparing for the new production season.
Despite unfavorable weather conditions, in the fields of Yen Giang village, Yen Hoa commune (Cam Xuyen district), plows are turning over the soil for the 2024 spring rice planting.
On the riverbank, excavators were mobilized to dig and fill, replan the field boundaries and clear weeds. This is an area where Yen Hoa commune has recently implemented land consolidation to prepare for the 2024 spring crop.
Machinery was mobilized to plan the boundaries of fields and plots in Yen Hoa commune.
Mr. Tran Cong Huyen, Vice Chairman of the Yen Hoa Commune People's Committee, said: “This field and the field in Yen My village will implement a model of organic rice production combined with tray seedling and machine transplanting in the upcoming spring crop. Accordingly, the people will cooperate with Hoa Lac IEC Joint Stock Company to implement the model on an area of about 45 hectares. In addition to the area implementing the organic rice production model, all other fields in the commune are currently being prepared for planting. The progress of land preparation throughout the commune has reached over 70%.”
In the spring of 2024, Yen Hoa commune continued to consolidate over 79.5 hectares of farmland, raising the total area of consolidated and converted farmland to 383.9 hectares (reaching 70% of the total spring rice area in the commune). These converted fields provide ideal conditions for Yen Hoa commune to successfully implement the 2024 spring crop.
Residents of Cam Hung commune are dredging canals and ditches in preparation for the 2024 spring crop.
Not only Yen Hoa commune, but all localities in Cam Xuyen district are currently focusing on plowing and developing irrigation systems. In Cam Hung commune – one of the localities often facing difficulties with irrigation water due to its location at the end of the Ke Go reservoir – the focus is on dredging irrigation canals. The pumping system and sluice gate opening and closing mechanisms are being maintained, serviced, and repaired. To date, Cam Hung has excavated and built 5 km of internal field roads. The entire commune aims to complete the dredging of approximately 30 km of canals before January 2024.
With decisive leadership, preparations for the new crop season in Cam Xuyen district are currently progressing smoothly. Localities are simultaneously implementing irrigation projects; focusing on digging, dredging, and clearing the waterways of canals. To date, the plowed area in the district has reached over 50%; the volume of irrigation excavation and embankment has reached over 60% of the plan. The entire district is striving to complete the irrigation work before January 2024.
Cam Xuyen town is constructing and installing drainage pipes along the inland irrigation canals to ensure proper irrigation.
Cam Xuyen district has the largest area of spring crops in Ha Tinh province. According to the 2024 spring crop production plan, the district aims to plant 9,560.1 hectares of rice; 1,280 hectares of various vegetables and fruits; 857 hectares of peanuts; 120 hectares of corn; 190 hectares of sweet potatoes; and 110 hectares of various beans.
Mr. Le Van Danh, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Cam Xuyen district, said: “For rice production, this year, the district will not allocate more than 35% of the area to a single variety. Common varieties that have been cultivated for many years and have stable yields, such as N98, Khang Dan, and Xuan Mai 12, will continue to be used. In addition, high-yielding, high-quality varieties such as Bac Thinh, VNR10, BT09, ADI 168, ST25, and JO2 will continue to be prioritized. According to the planting schedule, the entire district will begin sowing and transplanting spring rice from January 15, 2024, and finish before February 8, 2024.”
The tractors are operating at maximum capacity in the fields of Cam Xuyen.
According to the plan, in the spring of 2024, Cam Xuyen district will expand the area of organic rice production using machine transplanting and tray seedling technology, linked in a chain with businesses in the localities of Cam Binh, Yen Hoa, Nam Phuc Thang, Cam Quang, Cam Thanh, and Cam Xuyen town, with an expected scale of 85 hectares. The district will continue to expand the model of growing Japanese sweet potatoes in the localities of Cam My, Cam Lac, and Cam Duong; maintain, expand, and continue to pilot some new agricultural production models...
With a focus on preparation, the spring crop of 2024 in the province's largest rice granary promises to be successful right from the planting stage, creating momentum for production throughout the entire season.
