After 10 days of being immersed in mud, water, and garbage, many military officers and soldiers suffered from swollen and painful hands and feet... Overcoming all difficulties, soldiers and militiamen still tried to stay in the area to help people in Hue City overcome the consequences of the great flood and be ready to respond to storm No. 13.

Swollen hands still diligently "cleaning up the flood"

After successive floods, many areas in Hue City were flooded with mud, garbage, animal carcasses, and the environment was polluted. Following the direction of the Military Region 4 Command, hundreds of officers and soldiers of Division 968 helped people respond to natural disasters and overcome the consequences of floods from the very first days.

After 10 days of hard work in muddy conditions, many officers and soldiers' hands and feet were swollen, bleeding, blistered, and their bodies were tired from fever and dermatitis... Overcoming difficulties, every day at exactly 6 o'clock, officers and soldiers of the unit still lined up in neat rows, carrying full working tools to march to the area to carry out their tasks.

Sergeant Pham Vu Long, Squad Leader of Squad 7, Platoon 9, Company 4, Battalion 4 (Regiment 19, Division 968) shared: "Because I had to soak in mud and water for many days, my limbs were cracked and sore, making it difficult to walk."

Currently, nearly 20% of officers and soldiers of Division 968 participating in helping people overcome the consequences of floods in Hue City have skin allergies, cracked and swollen limbs... In this situation, the unit has directed the medical force to soak soldiers in salt water to disinfect, apply medicine and distribute boots and gloves to ensure health when working in a polluted environment.

Implementing the direction of the Hue City Military Command, from October 31 to November 5, Infantry Regiment 6 mobilized nearly 1,200 officers and soldiers to help localities overcome the consequences of floods. Officers and soldiers of the unit coordinated to collect about 220 tons of waste, nearly 105m3 of mud; cleaned more than 15km of roads, nearly 45,000m2 of school grounds, medical stations, and traditional markets... According to Lieutenant Colonel Ta Van Tu, Political Commissar of Infantry Regiment 6: 100% of officers and soldiers of the unit were equipped with boots, gloves, and raincoats. However, due to having to come into contact with waste, mud, dirty water, and chemicals for many days, some comrades still suffered from skin allergies. The unit directed the medical force to deploy preventive measures and timely treatment to ensure the health of soldiers to continue performing their duties.

Talking to us, Colonel Le Huy Nghia, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Hue City Military Command, said: "The response to storm No. 13 was activated by the City Military Command 4 days ago. Agencies and units have deployed plans to proactively respond to situations to reduce damage; dispatch forces to be on duty in key areas, areas that are easily cut off and isolated; prepare well in all aspects, coordinate closely with the commune and ward authorities and local forces to promptly handle situations."

On November 6, the Hue City Border Guard Command mobilized 262 officers, soldiers and 14 vehicles to both participate in overcoming the consequences of floods and guide fishermen to arrange and anchor their boats and ships safely in storm shelters.
