With swollen hands, he continued diligently cleaning up the flood.

Following successive floods, many areas in Hue City were inundated with mud, garbage, animal carcasses, and the environment was polluted. Acting on directives from the 4th Military Region Command, hundreds of officers and soldiers from the 968th Division assisted the people in responding to the natural disaster and mitigating the consequences of the floods from the very first days.

After 10 days of arduous work in muddy conditions, many officers and soldiers suffered from swollen, bleeding, and blistered hands and feet, and were exhausted from fever and dermatitis... Overcoming these difficulties, every day, precisely at 6 a.m., the officers and soldiers of the unit marched in orderly ranks, carrying all their tools, to the area to carry out their mission.

Sergeant Pham Vu Long, Squad Leader of Squad 7, Platoon 9, Company 4, Battalion 4 (19th Regiment, 968th Division) shared: "Because I had to immerse myself in mud and water for many days, my hands and feet cracked, ached, and I had a lot of difficulty walking."

Currently, nearly 20% of the officers and soldiers of the 968th Division participating in helping people overcome the consequences of floods in Hue City are suffering from skin allergies, cracked and swollen hands and feet... In response to this situation, the unit has directed its medical force to have the soldiers soak their hands and feet in saline solution for disinfection, apply medication, and provide boots and gloves to ensure their health while working in a polluted environment.

Following the directives of the Hue City Military Command, from October 31st to November 5th, the 6th Infantry Regiment deployed nearly 1,200 officers and soldiers to assist local areas in overcoming the consequences of the floods. The unit's officers and soldiers coordinated the collection of approximately 220 tons of waste and nearly 105 cubic meters of mud; they also cleaned over 15 kilometers of roads and nearly 45,000 square meters of school grounds, health stations, and local markets. According to Lieutenant Colonel Ta Van Tu, Political Commissar of the 6th Infantry Regiment: 100% of the unit's officers and soldiers were equipped with boots, gloves, and raincoats. However, due to prolonged contact with waste, mud, dirty water, and chemicals, some personnel still suffered from skin allergies. The unit directed its medical personnel to implement timely preventive and treatment measures to ensure the health of the troops so they could continue their duties.
