According to Lieutenant Colonel Bui Minh An, Deputy Commander of the Defense Command of Region 1 - Hoai Nhon Nam, the peak time for the rapid rise of floodwaters was the night of November 18th and the early morning of November 19th, leaving many households in the communes and wards of Tuy Phuoc, Quy Nhon Bac, and Quy Nhon Dong unprepared.

Colonel Phan Dai Nghia, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 5 (standing on the left), and Colonel Nguyen The Vinh, Commander of the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command (standing in the middle), inspect and assess the situation at flooded areas.

In particular, the house of Mr. Ho Van Tri's family, located in Group 34, Area 5, Quy Nhon Dong Ward, is tall and sturdy, so many neighboring families sought refuge there. However, when floodwaters rose during the night, 24 people inside Mr. Tri's house were completely trapped. Upon receiving the report, the Command Board of Defense Area 1 - Hoai Nhon Nam dispatched forces and boats to rescue and bring the 24 people to safety.

Lieutenant Colonel Truong Duc Dang, Deputy Commander of the Defense Command of Area 1 - Hoai Nhon Nam, directly commanded the rescue force that saved 26 people sheltering in the house of Mr. Duong Van Chuc, in Group 34, Area 5, Quy Nhon Dong Ward. "When we brought the 26 people to safety, Mr. Duong Van Chuc emotionally told us: 'If it weren't for the timely rescue by the soldiers, we would have been in grave danger.' The people will forever remember this kindness from you," Lieutenant Colonel Truong Duc Dang recalled.

The Command of Defense Zone 1 - Hoai Nhon Nam dispatched forces to deeply flooded areas to rescue people.

In addition, in other deeply flooded areas, the rapid response team of the Regional Defense Command 1 - Hoai Nhon Nam continuously mobilized to rescue people throughout the night and brought 210 households with 680 people to safety. Among them were many elderly people and young children with mobility difficulties.

Many elderly people were promptly evacuated by the Command of Defense Zone 1 - Hoai Nhon Nam.

Mr. Ho Van Tri recalled the moment he was rescued by officers and soldiers of the Zone 1 Defense Command - Hoai Nhon Nam. Mr. Tri said that at first, his family and neighbors thought his house was a safe haven, but unexpectedly, the floodwaters rose too quickly, and no one had time to do anything. If the soldiers hadn't brought canoes to rescue them, who knows what would have happened.

The Command of Defense Zone 1 - Hoai Nhon Nam responded to the rescue, bringing the children to safety.

Colonel Nguyen The Vinh, Commander of the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command, said that to respond to the floods, the Gia Lai Provincial Armed Forces have deployed forces and resources in coordination with other units to relocate and evacuate 1,203 households/3,649 people. They have also organized 24/7 readiness to mobilize and rescue people in case of emergencies. Regardless of the circumstances, when people are in danger, the officers and soldiers of the Gia Lai Provincial Armed Forces are always ready to sacrifice themselves to save them.
