Throughout the fields of Kim Boi commune, there is a bustling activity of winter crop production. Following the motto "don't let the land rest," farmers are savvy enough to plant winter crops after the rice harvest to improve their income.

On the potato field of Ms. Bui Thi Mai's family in Coc hamlet, the couple is busy tending to their potatoes. Ms. Mai shared: "With over 2,000 square meters of potato fields, we expect to harvest about 4-5 tons of tubers. At a price of around 20,000 VND/kg, the family estimates they will earn over 80 million VND. The main market is retail sales in the local area and neighboring regions."

In Mo Da hamlet, households also utilize their land to grow winter vegetables. Potatoes, kohlrabi, lettuce... are the main crops that help people improve their income. Depending on the area and care methods, each family can earn an average of 10-30 million VND from winter crop production.

To achieve the best results in winter crop production, the People's Committee of Kim Boi commune proactively developed a plan, arranged a rational cropping structure, and assigned specific targets for area and yield. Emphasis was placed on maintaining and expanding the area of crops that grow well and bring high economic efficiency. In reality, Kim Boi commune has favorable conditions in terms of fertile land and a suitable climate for growing winter crops. The people have extensive experience in winter crop production, making it easy to maintain and expand the cultivated area. In addition, farmers use mechanization in production, shortening the time and reducing labor.

According to statistics up to the end of 2025, the total area of vegetables in the commune is over 622.6 hectares, with a production of over 9,000 tons. Of which, the winter-spring crop accounts for over 436 hectares, with a production of nearly 6,300 tons. The crop structure in the winter season is quite diverse: sweet potatoes have the largest area with nearly 139 hectares, producing about 640 tons; peanuts are maintained on over 35 hectares, with an expected production of nearly 90 tons; various types of beans cover 11.75 hectares, with a production of about 20 tons...

Residents of Mo Da hamlet, Kim Boi commune, are reclaiming land to plant winter crops.

Along with expanding the area for winter crops, Kim Boi commune is focusing on developing production in a safe and sustainable direction. The entire commune has 5.7 hectares certified for safe production, including 1.7 hectares of Dien pomelo and 4 hectares of Luc Truc bamboo shoots meeting VietGAP standards. However, the commune has not yet formed concentrated growing areas for key products with clear competitive advantages. In addition, agricultural production faces numerous difficulties due to the impact of natural disasters. Some pests and diseases are occurring locally; agricultural input prices are fluctuating and increasing; and irrigation infrastructure and internal field transportation are still inadequate for drainage and agricultural product transport.

Comrade Dao Duy Hung - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Kim Boi commune affirmed: “The winter crop production movement has been established and maintained for many years. Utilizing land to plant short-term crops helps people earn extra income. This year's weather forecast is favorable for the growth and development of various crops. The local government focuses on directing specialized agencies to support and guide farmers in developing production areas towards safety, increasing added value; expanding the area meeting VietGAP standards. We promptly provide sufficient seeds and agricultural supplies; mobilize resources to invest in, upgrade, and repair the canal and irrigation system. We assign officials to closely monitor the fields, guide people on cultivation techniques and pest control; and promote proactive response to cold spells, ensuring safety, productivity, and efficiency in winter crop production.”
