On April 12, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long province coordinated with the Provincial Women's Union and the People's Committee of Binh Minh town to organize Thanh Tra Festival and perform a Vietnamese record of 135 dishes made from Thanh Tra fruit of Binh Minh town.
At the program, 20 teams of women's union members from localities in the province competed in the Culinary Contest using ingredients from pomelos, thereby contributing many dishes and drinks with diverse colors and flavors to the record-setting performance program.
As a result, the Organizing Committee awarded the First Prize of the Culinary Competition to the Women's Union of Dong Thanh Commune, Binh Minh Town. In particular, through the process of supervision, counting and appraisal, the representative of the Vietnam Record Council presented the official decision to establish the Vietnam Record with the content "The event of processing and performing 135 dishes and drinks from the first pomelo in Vietnam (with the main ingredient being the specialty pomelo of Binh Minh Town)" to the People's Committee of Binh Minh Town.
Vice Chairwoman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh said that pomelo is a specialty fruit, grown for many years in Binh Minh town, mainly in Dong Thanh commune. Every year, after Tet holiday until the third lunar month is the time when pomelo is in full season in the whole region. In recent times, pomelo is not only consumed fresh but also has many high-quality processed products consumed in the market such as pomelo salad, pomelo jam, pomelo wine, etc.
In addition, many dishes with pomelo spices have been included in the meals of farming households and luxurious parties, contributing to creating added value for pomelos and increasing income for people.
Thanh Tra fruit of Binh Minh town in particular and Vinh Long province in general not only brings economic value but also contributes to building the agricultural product brand of the province.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh emphasized that this is the first time the province has organized Thanh Tra Festival with the purpose of honoring and introducing a specialty fruit of Binh Minh town, Vinh Long province.
The festival is not only an opportunity for people to enjoy delicious pomelos and pomelo products, but also an opportunity for gardeners, agricultural production and processing facilities to exchange experiences and expand the consumption market.
This is also an opportunity to promote the image and introduce the tourism development potential of Vinh Long province to domestic and foreign investors and tourists.
Vinh Long province hopes that in the future, Dong Thanh commune, Binh Minh town will become one of the attractive tourist destinations and one of the indispensable attractions in the tourist program of visitors to Vinh Long, at the same time contributing to the supply chain of high-quality products and services for tourists, enhancing the value of Vinh Long fruits in the market...

As the person who brought high economic value to pomelo trees by pioneering the development of the Nam Cap sweet pomelo variety, Mr. Huynh Van Cap, Director of Dong Thanh Sweet Pomelo Cooperative, Binh Minh town, was excited when for the first time the locality organized the Pomelo Festival and set a record for culinary dishes made from pomelo ingredients.
Mr. Huynh Van Cap said: “Local people are very excited to participate in this event, especially when the pomelo fruit is widely promoted to everyone. People hope that in the coming time, pomelo fruit will continue to receive local attention, creating conditions for it to reach further. Farmers will strive to maintain and improve the quality of pomelo fruit so that consumers will trust, remember and buy it every time they visit Vinh Long.”
Thanh Tra Festival was held for the first time - as part of a series of activities of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Week of Vinh Long province in 2025, towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.
