Vietnam sets a record with 135 dishes made from star fruit.

The Vietnam Record Council officially recognized the Vietnam Record for "The first event in Vietnam to process and showcase 135 dishes and drinks made from green tea" for the People's Committee of Binh Minh town.

On April 12th, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long province, in coordination with the Provincial Women's Union and the People's Committee of Binh Minh town, organized the Thanh Tra Festival and showcased the establishment of a Vietnamese record for 135 dishes made with ingredients from Thanh Tra fruit from Binh Minh town.

At the event, 20 teams of women's association members from various localities in the province competed in a culinary competition using star fruit as an ingredient, contributing many diverse dishes and drinks in terms of color and flavor to the record-breaking performance.

As a result, the Organizing Committee awarded the First Prize of the Culinary Competition to the Women's Union of Dong Thanh Commune, Binh Minh Town. Notably, after monitoring, counting, and verification, representatives of the Vietnam Record Establishment Council officially presented the Vietnam Record Establishment decision for "The first event in Vietnam to process and showcase 135 dishes and drinks made from pomelo (with the main ingredient being the pomelo specialty of Binh Minh Town)" to the People's Committee of Binh Minh Town.

According to Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Long province, thanh tra is a specialty fruit that has been grown for many years in Binh Minh town, mainly in Dong Thanh commune. Every year, from after the Lunar New Year until the third lunar month, thanh tra is in full bloom throughout the region. In recent years, thanh tra fruit has not only been consumed fresh but also processed into many high-quality products such as pickled thanh tra, thanh tra jam, and thanh tra wine.

Furthermore, many dishes seasoned with star fruit have found their way from the meals of farming households to luxurious banquets, contributing to the added value of star fruit and increasing income for the people.

The pomelo fruit from Binh Minh town in particular and Vinh Long province in general not only brings economic value but also contributes to building the province's agricultural product brand.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh emphasized that this is the first time the province has organized the Thanh Tra Festival with the aim of honoring and introducing a specialty fruit of Binh Minh town, Vinh Long province.

The festival is not only an opportunity for people to enjoy delicious pomelos and products made from them, but also a chance for orchards, agricultural production and processing facilities to network, exchange experiences, and expand their markets.

This is also an opportunity to promote the image and introduce the tourism development potential of Vinh Long province to domestic and foreign investors and tourists.

Vinh Long province expects that, in the future, Dong Thanh commune in Binh Minh town will become one of the attractive tourist destinations and an indispensable stop on tourists' itineraries when visiting Vinh Long. It will also contribute to the supply chain of high-quality products and services for tourists, enhancing the value of Vinh Long's fruits in the market.

As someone who has brought high economic value to the pomelo tree by pioneering the development of the sweet Nam Cap pomelo variety, Mr. Huynh Van Cap, Director of the Dong Thanh Sweet Pomelo Cooperative in Binh Minh town, is delighted that the locality is organizing the first Pomelo Festival and setting a record for culinary dishes made from pomelo.

Mr. Huynh Van Cap said: “Local people are very excited to participate in this event, especially with the widespread promotion of the pomelo fruit. People hope that in the future, the pomelo fruit will continue to receive attention and support from the local authorities to reach a wider market. Farmers will strive to maintain and improve the quality of the pomelo fruit so that consumers will trust, remember, and seek it out whenever they visit Vinh Long.”

The first ever Thanh Tra Festival is one of the activities in the Vinh Long Province Culture, Sports and Tourism Week 2025, aiming to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country.

The festival also includes many other activities such as: an exhibition space showcasing OCOP products of Vinh Long province; a reenactment of a rural market; and a presentation and demonstration of the tofu skin production process in My Hoa commune, aiming to promote local specialties to people and tourists inside and outside the province.
