Building a positive cyberspace

Not only are they present on social media as users or content creators, many young people in Da Nang are gradually becoming active and responsible participants in building a positive online environment.

When digital citizens have a voice

Social media is also becoming a platform where many young people express their opinions on urban issues. From waste management and traffic to urban civility, the suggestions of young people are gradually becoming a part of social discussion.

Nguyen Bao Duy (24 years old, residing in Hoa Khanh ward) believes that social media today is not only for entertainment but also a place where young people can contribute their opinions to the community.

“There are very familiar issues, such as waste, greenery, or traffic order. When I see problems, I often take pictures and report them on online community groups. I also encourage my friends to contribute their voices to build a greener, cleaner, more beautiful, and more civilized Da Nang . If suggestions are made responsibly and with clear information, those opinions can help authorities grasp the actual situation more quickly,” Bao Duy shared.

According to Duy, it's crucial for young people to express their opinions online in a constructive manner, verify information before posting, and respect the law. This is also a manifestation of civic responsibility in the digital environment.

Ahead of the election of representatives to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term, the festive atmosphere in many residential areas of Da Nang is not only vibrant at polling stations but also spreading across the internet. Many media products created by youth union members have attracted community attention, helping voters access election information more visually and conveniently.

In Cam Le ward, local youth have implemented many initiatives applying technology in election propaganda. A notable example is the "Digital Voter - Responsible Ballot" product created by the Youth Union of Binh Minh Kindergarten. By applying AI, union members have developed visually engaging communication products introducing the election.

At the higher level, the Cam Le Ward Youth Union also launched a QR code to compile election information, allowing voters to easily look up the list of candidates, the biographies of each candidate, polling locations, and instructions on how to vote correctly.

With just a scan of a QR code on their phones, citizens can access all the necessary information before participating in the election. These methods demonstrate the increasingly clear role of young people in bringing technology to serve community life. The online space, therefore, is not only a place for sharing information but also a channel to support citizens in exercising their rights and fulfilling their civic duties.

Three essential qualities for young people.

According to Nguyen Ba Duan, Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Youth Union in Da Nang City, the shift in the role of young people from internet users to "digital citizens" is clearly taking place.

Currently, Da Nang has approximately 600,000 young people, a dynamic workforce with a high capacity for adapting to technology. Practical experience in youth union work shows that young people not only use social media to share personal information but also actively participate in reflecting on and contributing ideas to urban issues such as the environment, traffic, urban civilization, and administrative reform.

Many models have been implemented to facilitate youth participation in this process. Community digital technology groups or the "Digital Literacy Movement" launched by the City Youth Union have attracted a large number of members to assist people in installing VNeID, using remote digital signatures, making cashless payments, or using electronic health records.

Mr. Duan also believes that, in order for young people's opinions on social media to not just remain as status updates, it is important to create a mechanism for those ideas to be received and transformed into concrete actions.

In recent times, many creative forums for young people have been organized, such as the Da Nang Youth Festival for Pioneering Digital Transformation, the "AI Innovation Challenge - Building a Community" competition, and startup support programs. These platforms not only help young people share ideas but also create opportunities for initiatives to be developed into community-serving projects.

In the context of increasingly diverse information on social media, equipping young people with critical thinking and digital skills is also considered an important task. The Da Nang Youth Union has organized many training programs to help its members identify and prevent online scams, protect personal data, and use social media safely…

Alongside this, campaigns such as "One good news story a day, one beautiful story a week" and the "Youth behaving civilly in cyberspace" movement have been widely implemented to spread positive values in the digital environment. "Through these activities, we hope that young people will express their opinions online with thoughtful consideration, respect for the law, and responsibility to the community," said Mr. Duan.

The Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang City Youth Union stated that the image of Da Nang youth on social media in the coming years needs to encompass three elements: creativity, courage, and social responsibility.

"These will be young people who know how to create positive content, engage in constructive social critique, and, more importantly, proactively propose solutions to the city's problems."

“Young people must be responsible citizens who use technology with a sense of community. When young people are both present and actively acting in cyberspace, they are becoming a force in shaping the digital social life of the city,” added Mr. Nguyen Ba Duan.
