Warm spring in Giong Rieng

In early February 2026, many people came to the People's Committee of Giong Rieng commune, holding invitation letters, chatting while waiting for their turn to receive gifts. Everyone was happy, because Tet (Lunar New Year) was fast approaching and they clearly felt the care and sharing of the local community.

Among the crowd, Mrs. Thi Canh, a resident of Giong Da hamlet, stood huddled beside a bench, clutching a bag of gifts she had just received. Her family mainly works as laborers, with unstable incomes, so each Tet holiday brings extra worry. Mrs. Thi Canh shared: “Tet is the time of year when expenses are highest, so I am very happy to receive attention and support from the local authorities and benefactors. With extra money to buy cakes and sweets, Tet feels warmer.” Sitting nearby, Mrs. Quach Thi Chu (69 years old), also from the hamlet, slowly tied up her gift bag. Due to her advanced age and weak health, her life mainly depends on her children and grandchildren. “When Tet comes, I only hope to have a little rice and some cakes and sweets to create a warm and joyful atmosphere. Having gifts makes me feel like Tet has arrived,” Mrs. Chu confided.

These simple stories partly illustrate the practical significance of the Tet gift-giving program in the locality. Upholding the tradition of mutual support and compassion, the Thien Tam Fund - Vingroup Corporation, in coordination with the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province and Giong Rieng commune, recently organized the distribution of Tet gifts for the Year of the Horse 2026 to poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households in the area. 300 gift packages were distributed, each containing 500,000 VND in cash and essential goods, helping people to better prepare for Tet. The gift distribution was carried out correctly, ensuring transparency and public consensus.

The task of providing Tet (Lunar New Year) support to disadvantaged people in Giong Rieng commune has been underway since early on. Currently, the commune still has 153 poor households and 445 near-poor households. Based on a review of each specific situation, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune has proactively mobilized and connected social resources. To date, the commune has mobilized 750 gift packages, totaling 375 million VND; and 600 packages of essential goods, totaling 245 million VND. The gifts are prioritized for single-parent households, the sick, and those in particularly difficult circumstances.

Speaking at the gift-giving ceremony, Comrade Le Thanh Viet - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, said: "Caring for the poor during Tet is an activity with profound humanitarian significance, demonstrating the responsibility of the entire political system and society. The joint efforts of units, businesses, and philanthropists contribute to helping people celebrate Tet more joyfully and warmly."

According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Giong Rieng commune, through practical support activities, the commune hopes to further motivate people to improve their lives and gradually escape poverty sustainably. The gifts brought home not only contain essential goods for the spring season but also embody the warmth of human kindness. Spring seems to arrive earlier when people in need receive timely attention, ensuring everyone has a fulfilling Tet holiday and no one is left behind.
