Many new spacious houses in Mong Coc O village. |
Coc O is about 15km from the commune center, on a steep and winding mountain pass. We visited the family of Mr. Hoang Van Lu, one of the first families whose children went to work in Japan, to witness the changes in his family.
Through conversation, we learned that after three years of working, Mr. Lu's eldest son sent money back to build a spacious house. According to calculations by the villagers, each worker exported to Japan can send back 20-25 million VND/month, a large income for the people here, helping them have capital to invest in production and stabilize their lives.
Mr. Hoang Van Lu shared that at first his family was hesitant to let their son go far away, but the changes from the trips of the villagers made the family more confident. After 5 years, the village has changed a lot, there is a car road and electricity. Thanks to labor export, life is getting more and more prosperous.
From the first exported worker in 2018, up to now, Coc O village has had 11 people working in the markets of Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. 100% of households in the village currently have people working as workers in industrial parks or exporting labor.
In just 5 years, there are no more temporary houses, 90% of households have built solid houses, worth from several hundred million to billions of dong. Ms. Vang Thi Sung, Secretary of the Coc O Party Cell, said: At first, no one thought about going to work abroad. But when they saw the practical results, people gradually changed their mindset and were ready to integrate. Even my husband was one of the first people to go to Japan.
According to Mr. Dam Van Trung, Vice Chairman of Hiep Luc Commune People's Committee, labor export has proven effective in poverty reduction in the locality. The commune will continue to mobilize, support, advise, and connect loans so that people have more conditions to participate.
The province currently has about 34 thousand Mong people, mainly living in the highlands, where economic and social conditions are still difficult. Labor export not only brings a stable source of income but also helps change production thinking, raise awareness of organization, work style, gradually eliminate closed-mindedness, shyness, inferiority and contribute to opening up a new life in many highland villages and ethnic minority areas.
