2025 marks a significant breakthrough for Vietnam's import and export activities. Total trade turnover has already exceeded US$810 billion and is very close to reaching US$900 billion – the highest level ever. This growth momentum not only demonstrates the resilience of businesses but also reflects the expansion of the entire economy .

In the final months of the year, the flow of goods at seaports, border gates, and logistics centers accelerated significantly. Exports recovered in many key sectors, with many items reaching record values, contributing to a total import-export turnover exceeding 810 billion USD. Extensive participation in free trade agreements also created further advantages for production and import-export activities – a fact acknowledged by many import-export businesses in practice.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Dung, Head of Import-Export Department at Daco Logistic Company in Hai Phong City, said: "My company's import-export volume has doubled compared to last year. The reason is that the market is more diverse, the value of goods is higher, and customs procedures are more convenient and streamlined."

Mr. Hoang Minh Hung, Deputy Director of The Flat World Company in Hai Phong City, shared: "Vietnam has participated more extensively in free trade agreements, creating a more favorable environment for production, business, and import/export. Applying digital transformation technology to the production and business activities of enterprises as well as customs agencies has made procedures much more convenient."

While exports have surged, imports of raw materials and machinery have also increased. This indicates that domestic production is expanding, rather than simply reflecting consumer trends. Simultaneous growth in both directions is the key factor driving faster import and export turnover.

Ms. Truong Binh An, Deputy Head of the Customs Sub-Department of Region III, stated: "We process over 1 million customs declarations. To ensure smooth operations and quick customs clearance, we need solutions. We have reformed our supervision methods, allocated human resources to customs clearance activities, and are actively applying information technology. Importantly, we are training our staff to be proficient and professional, ensuring the right person is assigned to the right job."

Thanks to synchronized solutions from both businesses and government agencies, the breakthrough in import and export is creating further impetus for growth. However, to maintain this growth rate, businesses still face increasingly stringent requirements regarding green standards, supply chain competition, and digital transformation in logistics. From increasing in quantity, import and export is entering a phase where quality must be prioritized. With the current market pace, the milestone of $900 billion in import and export turnover this year is almost within reach.
