The unexpected 0-2 defeat at home against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-finals has put Yamal and his teammates in a desperate situation.
Having to travel to the Metropolitano stadium for the second leg with a two-goal deficit is a tough challenge, but young star Lamine Yamal appeared extremely relaxed and confident ahead of the big match.
The 18-year-old star even sent a witty message to the veteran Atletico Madrid manager: "I hope Coach Simeone will give me more one-on-one opportunities. I'm feeling very fit and eager to make a difference."
Yamal asserted that turning the tide was not a far-fetched miracle but within reach if Barca played to their full potential.
However, Champions League history is not on the side of Hansi Flick's team. In the past, only two teams have ever overturned a two-goal deficit at home in the first leg: Ajax (1968-1969) and Manchester United (2018-2019).
The Opta supercomputer also provided very realistic figures, showing that Barca have a 50.4% chance of winning the second leg but only a 20.4% chance of progressing to the next round.
Conversely, Atletico Madrid – the team that eliminated Barca in the quarter-finals in two previous encounters (2014 and 2016) – currently holds nearly an 80% chance of reaching the semi-finals according to Opta's assessment, thanks to their renowned pragmatic playing style and home advantage.
Despite the unfavorable statistics, Yamal remained steadfast: "We are a young team and we love this club deeply. The match lasts at least 90 minutes and it's not over yet. If necessary, I'm ready to take responsibility and promise that the whole team will fight until the very last second."
The second leg of the 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-final between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona will take place at 2:00 AM on April 15th.
