Vietnam Airlines digitizes food and beverage menus on flights
From November 1, 2023, Vietnam Airlines officially digitized the food and beverage menu on domestic and international flights, gradually replacing the traditional paper menu. The use of the new menu service method is in line with the digital transformation orientation, enhancing customer experience; at the same time, consolidating and maintaining the sustainable development goals that Vietnam Airlines has set for many years. Accordingly, the menu of each flight will be posted on the website www.vietnamairlines.com and the Vietnam Airlines mobile application, allowing passengers to access and view directly or save to their personal devices. 7 days before the flight departs, the system will send an invitation to look up the menu via text message and email for customers to easily follow. At the same time, on each flight, passengers can still look up the menu by scanning the QR code provided in Heritage magazine before the plane takes off. Mr. Dang Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines, said: “Applying technology to menu service is an inevitable trend of the digital age. Especially for a pioneering enterprise in sustainable aviation development like Vietnam Airlines, this change also demonstrates the airline's responsibility for environmental protection activities. Through digital menu conversion, Vietnam Airlines aims to minimize the impact of each flight operation stage on the living environment.” Before applying digital transformation to meal and beverage menus, Vietnam Airlines printed menus for international flights every 2 months and for domestic flights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City every 1 month. After the cycle ends, the menus will be discarded and replaced with new menus. It is estimated that stopping the provision of paper menus for the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route alone can limit up to 2.5 tons of waste paper per year. Digitizing the menu of meals and drinks on flights is an activity within the sustainable development strategy of Vietnam Airlines. Previously, a series of projects within the framework of this strategy have been implemented by the airline, typically including reducing millions of tons of nylon used each year for items on aircraft; deploying the PressReader electronic newspaper reading application instead of paper newspapers to save 36.7 tons of waste and 2.3 million tons of fuel annually; cooperating with the VietHarvest organization to donate airline meals... Notably, Vietnam Airlines has also completed the 2nd "Sustainable Flight Challenge" initiated by the Skyteam Alliance with initiatives for environmental benefits. Recently, Vietnam Airlines was honored as "The airline with the strongest sustainable development solution" (Boldest Move) with a comprehensive group of solutions to limit waste on flights (Comprehensive Landfill Prevention Project). According to statistics, thanks to applying this group of solutions, after the past 6 months, Vietnam Airlines has "rescued" 48.9 tons of waste from the environment.
