Vietnam Airlines plane makes emergency landing in Istanbul to rescue passengers

Vietnam Airlines flight VN30 departing from Frankfurt (Germany) to Ho Chi Minh City at 2:05 p.m. on September 17 had to adjust its route and land at Istanbul International Airport (Türkiye) to assist and rescue a passenger showing signs of abnormal health.

Accordingly, about 1 hour after takeoff, the 57-year-old male passenger, Vietnamese nationality, showed signs of unstable health. The flight crew immediately issued a notice requesting emergency medical assistance. Three doctors on board volunteered to provide first aid, however, the passenger's health condition showed no signs of improvement.

Faced with this situation, the flight captain decided to make an emergency landing at Istanbul airport and informed the ground department to deploy a medical support plan. After the plane landed safely, the passengers were immediately transferred to a local medical facility for emergency care and treatment.

The crew quickly coordinated with the authorities and ground service partners at the airport to complete the necessary procedures in Turkey, refueling flight VN30 to continue its journey to Ho Chi Minh City at 17:32 (local time) the same day. The flight is expected to land 3 hours and 20 minutes later than scheduled.

This is one of many cases where Vietnam Airlines has adjusted its itinerary to support passengers in need of medical assistance. The national airline affirms that it always prioritizes ensuring the safety and health of passengers in all situations, although adjusting the itinerary incurs costs related to fuel, ground services and flight schedules.

Vietnam Airlines advises passengers to proactively monitor and self-assess their health status before each trip. In case of noticing any unusual signs, passengers should consult a doctor promptly and consider taking the flight to ensure health safety.

Previously, on June 29, 2025, flight VN7569 from Hanoi to Cam Ranh of the airline made an emergency landing at Da Nang airport to rescue a passenger. On May 5, 2025, flight VN35 from Hanoi to Frankfurt (Germany) also made an emergency landing at Erzurum airport (Türkiye) for the same reason.
