2.5 billion queries per day: Is ChatGPT changing the way users search for information?

Every day, ChatGPT receives 2.5 billion queries from all over the world. A tool that was launched less than two years ago is gradually changing people's information-searching habits. What's really happening?

Users now prefer question-and-answer formats over keyword searches as they did before.

More and more people are choosing to chat with artificial intelligence instead of typing keywords as before. ChatGPT is gradually changing search habits, as users can ask anything and receive a response almost instantly.

How well is ChatGPT exceeding expectations?

From a tool launched in late 2022, ChatGPT has quickly become a global phenomenon. By mid-2025, the platform was recording an average of over 2.5 billion queries per day, according to statistics from OpenAI itself.

This impressive growth rate doesn't come from advertising, but primarily from the natural spread of word-of-mouth among users.

ChatGPT exists not only as a standalone application but is also present on multiple platforms such as browsers, similar to Siri. Furthermore, it's integrated into tools like Microsoft Copilot to support work tasks.

ChatGPT's biggest appeal lies in its convenience. No need to think of keywords, no need to filter through dozens of results, just ask in natural language. ChatGPT provides quick, clear answers, and the wording can be adjusted to suit your needs.

Users save time compiling information, which is especially useful in learning and work environments.

ChatGPT is reshaping search habits.

Instead of searching for information the old way, many people now choose to chat with artificial intelligence to ask for directions, translate text, do homework, write letters, or get quick suggestions. Users don't need to filter through many results; they simply ask questions as if they were texting an acquaintance.

The difference lies in the approach. Google provides a list of links, while ChatGPT answers directly. For example, instead of searching for "cover letter template," a user can simply say: "I am an IT student, please help me write a cover letter in English." The answer is available in seconds, tailored to their needs, without having to search through pages.

Office workers are quick to take advantage of this as well. ChatGPT can compose polite emails, summarize long texts, suggest subject lines, create plans, or rewrite content in a different style. Work becomes easier and more time-efficient.

The reason ChatGPT is so popular is not just its convenience, but also its ability to personalize. This tool can remember the context of the conversation, understand specific requests, and adjust its wording according to the person asking. Its natural dialogue interface makes searching feel like you're asking a real person.

In particular, ChatGPT-4o can also receive images, understand speech, and respond with voice. Users don't need to type; they just need to speak and listen. This is something that traditional search engines like Google haven't been able to do at a similar level.

Search habits are entering a new phase: fewer keywords, more conversations. And ChatGPT is one of the key factors driving this change.

Searching is more efficient when both tools are combined.

Faced with the strong rise of ChatGPT, Google didn't stand idly by. In late 2023, Google launched Gemini, a next-generation artificial intelligence model integrated directly into search results. With its "AI Overview" feature, users can receive a summary of content at the top of the page, instead of having to read each link individually as before.

However, there is still a difference in popularity between the two. ChatGPT is preferred by many for direct interaction, especially when needing a clear, contextual answer, or requiring a specific presentation style. Google remains the platform when users want to quickly search, verify information, or find official sources.

Each tool has its own strengths and weaknesses. With ChatGPT, the information returned can be smooth but sometimes not entirely accurate. Users still need to carefully verify the information if the answers relate to important facts or specialized content. Meanwhile, Google's results are mostly taken from moderated pages, but lack flexibility and personalization.

Current trends suggest that users don't necessarily have to choose one. Depending on the situation, many people use both tools simultaneously: finding suggestions on ChatGPT and then searching again on Google, or vice versa.

Instead of completely replacing existing methods, artificial intelligence is opening up a new approach to information, complementing old habits. This flexible integration allows users to search quickly while ensuring the necessary accuracy.
