(Dan Tri Newspaper) - In early 2026, a series of universities nationwide will officially appoint professors and associate professors who were recognized as meeting the standards in 2025.

Among the newly appointed professors are three notable figures: the richest professor in Vietnam, the youngest professor in Vietnam, and the youngest female professor, who will also be the only female professor in a particular field of study in 2025.

The richest professor in Vietnam

Mr. Ho Xuan Nang, lecturer and Chairman of the University Council, and General Director of Phenikaa University, brings a unique perspective to the list of candidates for professor and associate professor positions, not only in 2025 but arguably unprecedented in history.

Not only does he possess a wealth of academic achievements with numerous publications and scientific research papers, but he is also known as the richest professor in Vietnam, ranking among the top 10 wealthiest individuals on the Vietnamese stock exchange, with assets worth nearly 9,000 billion VND as of the end of 2024.

At the appointment ceremony, Professor Ho Xuan Nang affirmed that the appointment of professors and associate professors is not only a recognition of individual achievements but also a strengthening of the team so that higher education institutions can simultaneously fulfill three missions: training high-quality human resources; creating new scientific and technological values; and promoting innovation to make practical contributions to society.

Mr. Ho Xuan Nang (born in 1964 in Ninh Binh, formerly Nam Dinh province). In 1986, he graduated from Hanoi University of Technology (now Hanoi University of Science and Technology) with a degree in Internal Combustion Engines.

In 1992, at the age of 28, he was awarded a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Hanoi University of Technology. He was recognized as an Associate Professor in 2022 in the field of Dynamics.

To date, he has published 109 scientific articles, including 55 in prestigious international journals and 14 scientific reports published in conference proceedings indexed in Scopus; he is also the principal author of 22 prestigious international articles after being recognized as an associate professor.

In the business field, he has held many positions such as Chairman of the Board and General Director of Phuong Hoang Xanh A&A Group JSC; Chairman of the Board of Vicostone JSC; Director of Vinaconex High-End Stone Cladding JSC; and General Director of Vicostone JSC.

Since June 2014, he has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vicostone, a subsidiary of Phenikaa Group. Known as the "tycoon" in the Vietnamese stone and tile industry, he rose to prominence in 2014 with the acquisition deal between Phenikaa Group A&A Joint Stock Company and Vinaconex High-End Stone and Tile Joint Stock Company.

Vietnam's youngest professor in 2025

Professor Tran Quoc Trung, Deputy Director of Campus II of the Foreign Trade University in Ho Chi Minh City, is the youngest candidate for a professorship in Economics nationwide in 2025. He was also recognized as an Outstanding Young Citizen of Ho Chi Minh City in 2016. He was born in 1986 in Da Nang (formerly part of Quang Nam province).

In 2008, he received his Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Foreign Trade University. In 2011 and 2012, he received two Master's degrees, one in Business Administration from the Foreign Trade University and the other in Economic Law and Management from Lille 2 University (France). In 2017, he received his PhD from Lille 2 University.

He was recruited as a lecturer by the Foreign Trade University immediately after graduating in 2008 and has been with the university ever since, holding positions such as lecturer, Deputy Head of Department, and Head of Department.

In April 2020, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Trung was appointed Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Campus of the Foreign Trade University at the young age of 34. Also in 2020, he was recognized as having met the standards for the title of Associate Professor in Economics.

To date, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Quoc Trung has published 76 scientific articles, including 35 in prestigious international journals, 40 in domestic journals, and 1 in an online international journal.

He stated that since graduating, he has been involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He has also been recognized by the University of New Brunswick (Canada) and the University of Bedfordshire (UK) for meeting teaching standards in international collaborative programs.

In 2023 and 2024, he guided student groups to achieve numerous accomplishments, including second prize at the ministerial level in the "Science and Technology for University Students" award and two first prizes at the school level in the "Student Scientific Research" competition.

The youngest female professor in the country and the only one in the field of Physics in 2025.

Professor Tran Thi Thanh Van will be the youngest female professor in Vietnam in 2025, and also the only female professor in Physics to be recognized among a total of 71 professors nationwide.

Born in 1980 in Gia Lai, she is currently the Head of the Department of Materials Science and Technology, Faculty of Science (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City).

She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics in 2002 and a Master's degree in Optical Physics in 2006 from this university, then went to France to pursue a PhD in Optics - Laser, Physics - Chemistry - Atmospheric at the University of Science and Technology Lille 1, graduating in 2011.

To date, Professor Tran Thi Thanh Van has published 81 scientific articles, including 45 in prestigious international journals, and continues to be the main author of many publications after becoming an associate professor. She is also the author of two monographs and a guest managing editor of Ceramics International (ranked among the top 25% of scientific journals worldwide).

Her main research focus is on rare-earth-doped luminescent materials, biomedical materials, and functional nanomaterials, with applications in optoelectronics, anti-counterfeiting security, dentistry, drug delivery, sensing, and energy.

She has also received numerous accolades, including Outstanding Young Teacher of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, and has been recognized as a model worker for many years, as well as an exemplary advanced model of the University of Science.
