Bui Tien Tuan is considered one of the few artists who have made significant contributions to the revival and modernization of Vietnamese silk painting. However, looking back at his creative process, Bui Tien Tuan's work is not limited to silk paintings; he also creates oil paintings, paintings on Do paper, lacquer paintings, and more recently, large-format acrylic paintings.
Artist Bui Tien Tuan and his selected works "Dreamy Age " (silk) are featured at the exhibition.
Beyond the theme of city girls, Bui Tien Tuan's paintings also depict the romantic landscapes of Hoi An, or the raw reality of street life, imbued with a post-expressionist and abstract spirit. Regardless of the material or medium used to reflect the subject matter, artist Bui Tien Tuan always demonstrates a vibrant, captivating quality and, most importantly, maintains a very unique identity and style.
Artist Duc Hoa believes Bui Tien Tuan is one of the brightest names in contemporary Vietnamese silk painting. "What sets him apart and is unique is that while most silk painters depict female figures standing or lying still, quietly and gracefully, Tuan paints characters that are highly adaptable, swaying and soaring freely in bold, romantic directions. He shapes the characters according to his own artistic vision, both 'shaping' and 'relaxing,' both contracting and expanding, both 'bulging' and 'compressing'... into a sharp line or a focal point, not bound by the reality as perceived by the viewer. To me, that is artistic creation bearing a unique personal imprint," artist Duc Hoa commented.
