Arriving at Repair Workshop No. 1, Cao Son Coal Joint Stock Company in mid-June, we felt the competitive spirit, enthusiasm, and passion of the repairmen here. The sounds coming from the operation of lathes, planers, cranes, etc. sounded as bustling as the competitive spirit of the workers at Repair Workshop No. 1.

Repair Workshop No. 1 has many exemplary workers. Among them, worker Tran Van Thom is currently active in the Party Cell of Repair Workshop No. 1, Cao Son Coal Joint Stock Company, has 30 years of Party membership, and is an exemplary worker who has been attached to the company and the coal industry.

Mr. Tran Van Thom (58 years old), was born and raised in Binh Duong commune, Dong Trieu town. Born into a pure farming family, from a young age Tran Van Thom had a desire to become a good repairman. After finishing high school, Tran Van Thom enrolled in Chi Linh Mechanical Engineering Workers School, Hai Duong province. In October 1986, after graduating from school, he decided to return to Cam Pha to start a career and has been attached to Cao Son coal mine until now. When he first started working, he always had a spirit of trying, not afraid of difficulties, exemplary in work, solidarity with colleagues, a spirit of striving to improve, self-studying new equipment to apply in work to achieve efficiency and save costs for the unit.

With a youth filled with enthusiasm for dedication and striving, worker Tran Van Thom has matured with positive contributions to the labor production emulation movement. After 6 years of training and self-cultivation, on December 26, 1992, when the typical young man Tran Van Thom was only 27 years old, he was honored to stand in the ranks of the Party.

Mr. Tran Van Thom recalled: “On the day of admission to the Party, standing before the Party flag, I loudly swore the oath. It was a sacred and proud feeling and a day that will never fade in my memory. From that sacred moment, I told myself that I must always strive for the Party's noble goals and ideals. Besides, I must always clearly define the role and tasks of a Party member, always absolutely believe in and strictly comply with the Party's policies and guidelines and the State's laws; I must understand that being a Party member means living more responsibly; I must do my duty well.”

After 36 years of striving and training and 30 years of standing in the Party's ranks, Party member Tran Van Thom has become a shining example for workers in the unit to learn and follow. In the unit, comrade Thom is also known as a very enthusiastic and energetic person in his work, constantly creative in his work to save costs for the Company, regularly applying technology, science and technology effectively to assigned work. In addition, every year, worker Tran Van Thom also guides and mentors many young workers. In recognition of his contributions throughout the process of striving and training, he was honored to receive the Certificate of Merit for Excellent Safety - Hygiene in 1997 from the Vietnam National Coal Corporation, now the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group; the Glorious Miner Badge in 2001; and the Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Industry and Trade in 2012.

Comrade Vu Quang Dung, Party Cell Secretary, Manager of Repair Workshop No. 1 commented: Comrade Tran Van Thom is always an exemplary role model, a Party member striving for the Party's cause and ideals. Throughout his work, he has always excellently completed the assigned tasks, built and proposed initiatives and technical improvements to benefit the unit and the Company. In the work of training young workers, he is very enthusiastic and when assigned to him, our unit's leadership always trusts him absolutely. This is a typical factor in the emulation movement of labor production in the unit as well as in the Company. It is the exemplary role and pioneering spirit of Party member Tran Van Thom that has been attracting the attachment and enthusiasm for work of each cadre and employee in the workshop.
