The Department of Foreign Market Development ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) announced today that, after being stranded at Karachi port (Pakistan) for a long time and unable to transit for export to Afghanistan due to border tensions and conflicts, nearly 500 containers of tea belonging to Vietnamese businesses have been allowed to be re-exported by the Pakistani side.
The Department of Foreign Market Development stated that, immediately after receiving the feedback, the Ministry instructed the Vietnamese Trade Office in Pakistan to work directly with relevant Pakistani agencies, including customs, the Karachi Port Authority, the Ministry of Commerce, and other functional units, to find solutions to resolve the issue.
The Ministry also closely coordinated with the Vietnamese Embassy in Pakistan, organizing numerous direct contacts and exchanges at various levels to urge the Pakistani side to promptly take flexible measures to handle Vietnamese tea shipments.
Official diplomatic notes and letters were sent to the Pakistani Ministry of Commerce, requesting consideration of a special mechanism to support Vietnamese businesses in re-exporting containers of tea to third markets.
Authorities have reported the matter and recommended that the Prime Minister consider and direct the handling of the case at a higher level.
On December 31, the Pakistani Ministry of Commerce issued a document exempting current regulations (suspending transit of goods to Afghanistan) and approving the re-export of Vietnamese cargo containers stranded at Karachi port to other seaports, upon request from businesses or relevant logistics units.
This provides the legal basis for releasing nearly 500 containers of Vietnamese tea, helping businesses minimize losses in warehousing and storage costs, preserve product quality, and stabilize cash flow.
