According to statistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in December 2025, Vietnam exported 22,473 tons of various types of pepper, earning US$146.4 million. Compared to November, export volume increased by 20.9%, and export value increased by 20.5%. Compared to the same period in 2024, export volume increased by 47.2%, and export value increased by 45.5%. The average export price of black pepper in December reached US$6,485/ton, and white pepper reached US$8,565/ton, a decrease of 0.5% for black pepper but an increase of 6.1% for white pepper compared to the previous month.
The United States continues to be the largest export market for Vietnamese pepper, accounting for 27.7% with 6,233 tons, an increase of 35.9% compared to November 2025; followed by the UAE with 2,302 tons, China with 2,179 tons, Thailand with 1,261 tons and Germany with 944 tons.
For the whole year of 2025, Vietnam exported 247,482 tons of various types of pepper, including 212,279 tons of black pepper and 35,203 tons of white pepper. The total export value reached over 1.66 billion USD. Compared to the previous year, although the export volume decreased slightly by about 1.2%, the export value increased by 26%. This is also the year with the highest export value ever for Vietnam's pepper industry. The average export price of black pepper in 2025 reached 6,607 USD/ton, and white pepper reached 8,629 USD/ton, increasing by 36.2% for black pepper and 33.6% for white pepper respectively compared to the previous year.
Regarding the market, the impact of reciprocal tariffs will cause Vietnam's pepper exports to the United States to decrease by nearly 24% in 2025 compared to the previous year, but the US will still be Vietnam's largest pepper importer. Accordingly, pepper exports to the US in 2025 are expected to reach 55,082 tons, accounting for 22.3% of the total pepper exports for the year. Other important export markets include the UAE with 22,232 tons, accounting for 9%, an increase of 35.6%; China with 19,923 tons, accounting for 8.1%, an increase of 88%; India with 12,499 tons, accounting for 5.1%, an increase of 17.7%; and Germany with 11,820 tons, accounting for 4.8%, a decrease of 18.9% compared to the same period last year.
According to Ms. Hoang Thi Lien, President of VPSA, Vietnam is leading the world in pepper exports, and market opportunities remain wide open. However, the industry is also facing considerable pressure as markets such as the EU and the US continuously tighten sustainable production standards. Farming practices also face challenges from soil degradation, emission levels, and diseases. In this context, the association is implementing and expanding regenerative farming models that meet chemical residue standards in key pepper-growing regions to develop a more sustainable, low-carbon pepper value chain.
Mr. Phan Minh Thong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Phuc Sinh Group, one of Vietnam's leading pepper exporters, stated that amidst a volatile and fiercely competitive global environment, Vietnamese pepper has maintained its position in the international market. This achievement is thanks to clear and consistent strategic planning, along with accurate and objective assessment of global market developments.
“In addition to exporting raw pepper, many Vietnamese businesses have invested in building factories and processing technologies to increase the added value of their export products. Specifically in 2025, Phuc Sinh increased the capacity of its freeze-dried pepper factory and its pepper sauce product lines, items that Phuc Sinh currently exports exclusively from Vietnam to international markets. Along with that, many other deep processing plant projects are also being started and implemented, creating a foundation for sustainable development in the future,” Mr. Phan Minh Thong further shared.
Conversely, in 2025, Vietnam will also import 42,688 tons of pepper for processing and re-export, with a total import value of US$266.2 million. Compared to 2024, the import volume increased by 16.2% while the value increased by more than 51%. Brazil is the largest supplier of pepper to Vietnam in 2025, reaching 19,404 tons, an increase of 103% compared to the previous year and accounting for 45.5% of the market share. This is followed by Cambodia with 12,404 tons, an increase of 82.5%, accounting for 29.1%, and Indonesia with 7,546 tons, a decrease of 56.1% and accounting for 17.7% of the import market share.
Besides pepper, cinnamon exports are also expected to reach their highest levels ever in 2025, both in volume and value. Specifically, total cinnamon exports for the year are projected to reach nearly 120,300 tons, generating $300 million in revenue; a 20.4% increase in volume and a 9.4% increase in value compared to 2024. India is Vietnam's largest cinnamon market, consuming 45,184 tons, a 25.9% increase and accounting for 37.6% of the market share. This is followed by the United States with 13,583 tons, a 22.6% increase and accounting for 11.3% of the market share, and Bangladesh with 10,202 tons, a 28.7% increase and accounting for 8.5% of the export market share.
