According to information from the Russian Central Election Commission, voter turnout in the Russian presidential election reached 55.1% as of March 16.
Nikolai Bulaev, Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Russia, assessed that this is a very significant figure compared to the 2018 Russian presidential election, when the voting process took place in one day with a voter turnout at official polling stations reaching 51.9%. After adding early voting and overseas voter data, this figure increased to over 67%.
A notable point on the second day of Russian elections was the fact that leaders of many territories and republics fulfilled their civic duty, including the President of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov. He and his family cast their votes at a local polling station.
The Chechen leader noted that participating in the voting was enjoyable and also emphasized that all polling stations in the republic had very high voter turnout rates.

“The country’s presidential election is an extremely important socio -political event, determining the future direction of the state. And I am very proud that the people of the Chechen Republic are fully aware of its importance,” Ramzan Kadyrov wrote on his personal Telegram page.
The Chechen leader also stated that the festive atmosphere at polling stations and the participation of people in the region in the elections demonstrated the prosperity of the republic, as well as the entire federation.
Regarding ensuring security during the elections, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federal Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated that those who violate order at polling stations during the Russian presidential election will be appropriately punished.
“This is direct support for those who are shelling our cities. Criminals at polling stations must realize that because of their actions, they could face a special criminal sentence of 20 years…,” Dmitry Medvedev declared.
Dmitry Medvedev emphasized that the actions of those who violate the order during the elections could be prosecuted under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Treason in the form of supporting a foreign state in wartime”).
Earlier, the head of the Russian Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, called the actions of citizens damaging ballot boxes at polling stations during the Russian presidential election unacceptable.
