7 centrally-governed cities
From April 30, 2026, Vietnam will have 7 centrally-governed cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho, Hue, and Dong Nai. These cities will serve as special or type I urban areas, major economic, political, and cultural centers of the country.
