During talks in Cairo on May 24, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Yemeni Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shaya Mohsen al-Zindani discussed the security situation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden – strategic shipping lanes crucial to global trade.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry , Abdelatty affirmed Cairo's firm opposition to the involvement of parties "outside the coastal region" in maritime mechanisms and arrangements in the Red Sea.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized that ensuring the security and governance of this strategic waterway is the sole responsibility of the Arab and African nations bordering the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Both sides also agreed on the need to develop a comprehensive approach to Red Sea security, one that focuses not only on the military aspect but also takes into account the economic and development priorities of coastal states.

Mr. Abdelatty also emphasized the importance of promptly activating the operational mechanisms of the Council of Arab and African States bordering the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Regarding the situation in Yemen, the Egyptian Foreign Minister reaffirmed Cairo's support for the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen, and pledged continued support for Yemen's legitimate state institutions and government in fulfilling the aspirations of its people.

The two officials also discussed a number of regional developments, particularly the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister expressed hope that diplomatic efforts would lead to a comprehensive agreement, helping to resolve the concerns of all parties, de-escalate tensions, and promote regional stability.
