These are couples facing difficult circumstances in the area. They have been married for over 10 years and have 2-3 children together. However, the dream of wearing a wedding dress, holding hands, and introducing themselves to relatives in a formal wedding ceremony was something they hadn't even dared to think about in their lives. This time, with the support and cooperation of everyone, a well-organized and heartwarming wedding was held with the presence of both families.
From early morning, Mr. Phung Van Trong drove Ms. Lam Thuy Phuong on his three-wheeled motorbike from Phuoc Vinh to the wedding dress and makeup shop. Mr. Trong said that he has been disabled since childhood. This year he is almost 50 years old. More than 15 years ago, Ms. Phuong fell in love with him, and they got married. Every day, they both sell lottery tickets. Life is just enough to provide for their two children's education.
“Every day, my wife and I sell about 300 lottery tickets. Just last year, the local government gave our family 21 million VND to buy cows. We added another 2 million VND and bought two mother cows, and now we're about to have calves. Today, the Women's Union of the district and benefactors organized our wedding, and there's truly nothing happier than that. My wife and I will work hard to provide our children with a proper education,” Mr. Trong said with a bright smile.
Around 10 a.m., the three brides had finished their makeup. Dressed in a pristine white wedding dress, the Khmer girl Lang Thi Na looked radiant, drawing admiration from everyone. Na was truly happy and joyful to wear a wedding dress for the first time in her life.
"This is a memory I will never forget," Na said sincerely. Na and Ke Duon's families were not well-off, and seeing their children in love, the two sides simply agreed to the marriage with a nod of approval, without a proper wedding ceremony.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, owner of Phuong Kieu wedding dress shop, said that previously, seeing some localities organizing mass weddings for disadvantaged couples, she also wanted to contribute to this meaningful initiative in Tay Ninh .
“When I heard that the Women's Union of the district was organizing a zero-cost wedding, I immediately participated, registering to support by providing bridal makeup, wedding attire, and wedding venue. I also volunteered to cook for 20 tables at the wedding reception. I hope that couples in difficult circumstances can also experience the joy of their wedding day like other couples; and at the same time, spread this humane idea and love to everyone,” said the owner of Phuong Kieu wedding dress shop.
In the warm atmosphere of the wedding reception, the couples received toasts from relatives, local authorities, and benefactors. The ceremony was solemn and heartfelt as the bride and groom poured wine to toast their parents, even though some did not have both parents present on their child's special day.
Mr. Giao Sa, the uncle of the bride Lang Thi Na, representing the families, expressed gratitude to the benefactors, the Women's Union of the district, and the local government for creating favorable conditions for the couples to have a solemn and warm wedding ceremony. "It's truly wonderful to see my niece getting married today. Thank you to all the benefactors, the Women's Union of the district, and the local government," Mr. Giao Sa said emotionally.
In front of everyone, the groom awkwardly put his arm around the bride and they drank the ceremonial wine together; the bride blushed as the groom gently kissed her cheek. For the wedding gifts, the Chau Thanh District Women's Union mobilized benefactors to donate a pair of wedding rings to each couple, and a pair of earrings to the bride. In addition, the Provincial Women's Union and the governments of Phuoc Vinh, Thanh Dien, and Ninh Dien communes also provided gifts to congratulate the newlyweds.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh, Vice President of the Chau Thanh District Women's Union, said that this is the first time the District Women's Union has organized a wedding for women in difficult circumstances. The Union mobilized benefactors to support the organization of a zero-cost wedding, meaning neither family had to pay any expenses.
Ms. Ngoc Anh shared: “This is a meaningful activity to show the love and care of everyone for women in difficult and vulnerable circumstances in the area, so that they can have a warm and complete wedding. We hope that in the future, there will be more support from philanthropists to care for women in difficult circumstances, ensuring they receive the care of society.”
Happiness is not a destination, happiness is a journey. And in the journey of finding and building a happy family, you have received support and nurturing from kind hearts.
"I am truly grateful to the benefactors who made it possible for us to have this warm and complete wedding today. We will try our best to live well, work hard to provide for our children, and in the future, perhaps we will join hands with the local community to organize weddings for other couples," said Ms. Que Anh happily.
