(Dan Tri Newspaper) - A man posted on social media accusing a porridge restaurant in Dak Lak of overcharging 100,000 VND per bowl of oyster porridge. Upon reading the information, the restaurant owner panicked and quickly contacted the customer to explain.
On February 7th, images and information circulated on Facebook about a porridge shop in Phuoc An town, Krong Pak district, Dak Lak province, being accused of overcharging customers. The post read: "We were stranded on the road late at night and saw this shop open. My brother and I ate two bowls of porridge, but the owner charged us 200,000 VND."
The incident quickly attracted attention online, sparking much debate. Some argued that the price was quite high and that it might be because the restaurant operates at night. Others, however, believed the price was reasonable and showed no signs of price gouging.
The person who posted about the incident confirmed that in the early morning, he and a friend visited a porridge shop in Phuoc An town and ordered two bowls of oyster porridge. He claimed the shop charged too much because each bowl only contained four oysters. After posting the incident on social media, the shop owner contacted him to discuss the matter and offered to refund 100,000 VND, so he removed the post.
Ms. H., the owner of the porridge shop, said that her shop has always sold oyster porridge for 100,000 VND/bowl and chicken porridge for 35,000 VND/bowl. Each bowl of oyster porridge contains 8 oysters (priced at 12,000 VND/oyster).
"I sold two bowls of oyster porridge to this customer, and I put eight oysters in each bowl. My mistake was not clearly stating the price of 100,000 VND per bowl of oyster porridge. Perhaps this customer wasn't used to eating oyster porridge and thought it was expensive," Ms. H explained.
Ms. H. also said that when she saw the incident about her restaurant on social media, she was very panicked and proactively asked for the phone number to discuss and explain the situation in detail so that customers could understand and sympathize.
"I also returned 100,000 VND to the customer because I didn't want the story to become a big deal. I also affirm that my restaurant does not overcharge and does not take extra money from customers because we sell until dawn," Ms. H added.
Following the incident, Ms. H. stated that she will learn from the experience and explain things thoroughly to customers before selling them.
