Providing housing support for people in the border commune of Buôn Đôn has created a solid foundation for stable living, thereby inspiring many families to establish livelihoods and escape poverty sustainably.

In Thong Nhat village, the family of Mr. Y Nen Kdoh, consisting of six people, used to live in an old, dilapidated stilt house. The couple were farmers, working hard to raise their children and grandchildren. Therefore, the dilapidated roof created a mental burden, preventing them from confidently investing their efforts in economic development.

Joy came to Mr. Y Nẹn Kđoh's family when the local authorities provided support to build a new house under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. Along with the 80 million VND in support and their savings, his family built and inaugurated their spacious new home in mid-2025.

The couple happily shared that, thanks to the attention and support from the commune police and local authorities, their family now has this dream house. Now, they feel more secure in their work and economic development.

The construction of spacious houses of compassion has provided motivation for many families.
The support in building decent "Houses of Compassion" has motivated many families to focus on their work and develop their economy.

Major Tran Quang Duy, Deputy Head of Buon Don Commune Police, said: “To effectively implement the Prime Minister 's program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in 2025, the commune police have proactively advised the commune's Steering Committee to conduct thorough reviews, ensuring that the beneficiaries are the right people. Thanks to the concerted efforts, the program has been implemented quickly, completing 22 houses of compassion for disadvantaged families in the area, with a uniform support of 80 million VND per house.”

In Tri village, the wooden house of Mr. Y Hiep Nie was dilapidated and rickety, requiring significant resources and time for repairs. To help his family, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune mobilized all available resources and provided the family with 50 million VND to build a "Great Solidarity" house. Last August, the joy of a new home freed them from their greatest burden regarding housing. Now, with the ability to work and a stable place to live, they are motivated to dedicate all their minds and energy to developing their family's economy.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan, head of Tri village, shared that the village has 351 households with 1,262 inhabitants. Over the years, many programs have been implemented in the area to support the people in settling down and making a living, with funding ranging from 50 to 100 million VND. Thanks to these significant resources, the village has drastically reduced the number of poor households. Previously, there were 119 poor households, but now there are only 75.

Buon Don is a border commune with 1,793 households and 6,654 people belonging to 15 ethnic groups living together. It faces unique challenges typical of remote areas: limited education levels, income primarily derived from agriculture , difficult socio-economic conditions, and a significant portion of the population lacking arable land.

Amidst numerous difficulties, poverty reduction efforts have yielded significant results. By 2025, the poverty rate in the commune was projected to be 26.10%, a 6% decrease compared to 2024. This success stems from the housing program and various other comprehensive, multi-dimensional poverty reduction strategies.

Along with being provided with housing support, people are also supported in developing their livelihoods and are motivated to strive to escape poverty. Households have actively applied good technical measures to farming, introducing high-yield and high-quality varieties into production, thereby increasing productivity, output, and prices, contributing to increased income.

Local representatives came to visit and offer encouragement.

Mr. Nguyen Canh Tung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Buon Don commune, shared that the new house is not only a place to shelter from the rain and sun but also a symbol of care and a source of confidence for the people to boldly change their way of thinking and doing things.

In the coming period, in addition to continuing the review to completely eliminate temporary housing, the commune will focus resources and create maximum conditions in terms of capital, technology, and market linkages so that people can take advantage of the motivation from stable housing to break through and escape poverty, contributing to economic and production stability, and participating in building a more developed Buon Don commune.
