According to analyses by relevant authorities, in addition to objective causes such as limited transportation infrastructure, unsafe vehicles, and bad weather, the main direct cause of traffic accidents remains the low level of public awareness and compliance with traffic laws. The majority of accidents occur due to drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, speeding, reckless overtaking, swerving, lane encroachment, making arbitrary turns, not wearing helmets, driving against the flow of traffic, and underage children operating vehicles.
In recent times, the dissemination and education of traffic safety laws, combined with patrols, inspections, and enforcement of violations, have been consistently prioritized and implemented by all levels, sectors, and localities. The diverse content and forms of communication, targeting various audiences, have contributed to raising awareness of traffic safety laws, curbing and reducing traffic accidents. Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, residing in Chau Phu commune, shared: “After hearing about the administrative penalties for drunk driving, the awareness of road users has changed in a positive direction. I regularly remind my relatives and friends to strictly abide by traffic safety laws, ensuring safety for themselves and other road users.”
Mr. Le Thanh Hai, a resident of Rach Gia ward, said: "When attending weddings or parties and driving, I only drink water. If I consume alcohol, I will call a family member to pick me up, ensuring both safety and avoiding penalties for violating alcohol limits."
Regarding choosing motorbike taxi services after drinking alcohol, Mr. Vo The Anh, a resident of Long Xuyen ward, said: “Driving after drinking alcohol not only poses a danger to oneself but also to other road users. Traffic police need to increase patrols and inspections, set up more checkpoints to measure blood alcohol levels, and strictly handle violations, helping people worry less when going out on the road.”
Traffic accidents cause economic , health, and mental damage to people, with some pains that cannot be compensated for... Mr. Nguyen Van Ut, residing in An Chau commune, said: "Through the media, I have seen many tragic traffic accidents. Therefore, when driving, I always pay attention to ensure safety for myself and others."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tu, a resident of Phu Tan commune, said: “Traffic participants must comply with the law on traffic order and safety to ensure safety for themselves and other road users. I taught my children the habit of wearing helmets from a young age and being careful when driving, because safety is the most precious thing.” Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh, a bus driver in Rach Gia ward, shared: “When carrying passengers, whether transporting sick people or in urgent situations, we must still comply with the speed regulations on each route and not overtake recklessly to ensure the safety of passengers.”
Every road user needs to raise their sense of responsibility and strictly abide by traffic safety laws to help reduce traffic accidents and maintain a peaceful and happy life for themselves, their families, friends, the community, and society as a whole.
