I met Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tien Cong, Deputy Chief of Staff of Regiment 213, Division 363, Air Defense-Air Force Command, just after he won first prize at the 2023 Excellent Military Regulations Training Officer Competition organized by Division 363. Despite his joy, Lieutenant Colonel Cong cordially shared: “Winning a high prize in the competition isn't everything. The important thing is how we will apply that knowledge to work with the unit commanders and staff agencies to guide and improve the quality of military regulations training, build a standardized system, and manage discipline throughout the Regiment. Especially this year, Division 363 has been assigned the task of being a model unit for the Ministry of National Defense in this area.”
Nguyen Tien Cong has been with the 213th Regiment since 2009, holding various positions from platoon, company, and battalion officer to his current position as Deputy Chief of Staff. Regardless of his role, he has always been eager to learn, strive for improvement, set a good example, and demonstrated responsibility, readily accepting and successfully completing all assigned tasks. In particular, as Deputy Chief of Staff, he has advised and proposed to the Party Committee, the Regiment's command, and the staff many policies and solutions for leading, directing, and guiding units to maintain strict training, combat readiness, build a regular and disciplined system, and ensure safety in all activities. Throughout his career, Nguyen Tien Cong has accumulated extensive experience in carrying out his duties and has strived to achieve many accomplishments for both the unit and himself.
In early 2023, immediately after learning about the plan to participate in the division-level drill instructor competition, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tien Cong took advantage of his free time to self-study and research materials, combined with training from senior drill officers and applying experience accumulated from previous competitions to perfect his knowledge and command style in each competition category. In all three competition categories: theory, practical drill movements, and the presentation of a drill lesson plan for candidates who are officers from the regimental headquarters, Nguyen Tien Cong confidently completed all three sections excellently, receiving high praise from the competition's judging panel. In particular, in the practical section, presenting a drill lesson plan, he seamlessly combined speaking and performing movements, ensuring his delivery was loud, clear, coherent, and in accordance with regulations, thus achieving a perfect score.

With his first-place individual achievement at the 363rd Division's excellent drill instructor competition, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tien Cong was selected for the team preparing to participate in the competition at the Air Force level. I learned that from 2011 to 2014 and from 2016 to 2018, Nguyen Tien Cong was awarded the title of "Outstanding Soldier at the grassroots level"; he also won numerous high prizes at the excellent drill instructor competitions organized by the 363rd Division and the Air Defense-Air Force Command. In 2016, he won first place in the K54 rifle shooting competition at the Air Force level...
Commenting on this versatile officer, Lieutenant Colonel Bui Tien Dung, Commander of Regiment 213, said: “Comrade Nguyen Tien Cong is an officer with good moral character, excellent professional skills, and is energetic and enthusiastic in his work; he always provides accurate, correct, and effective advice, contributing to helping leaders and commanders direct the unit to successfully complete all tasks, especially in training regulations, building a regular and disciplined unit, and building a strong, comprehensive, exemplary unit. Comrade Cong deserves to be a role model for officers and soldiers in the unit to learn from and emulate.”
