Nguyen Thi Anh Vien joined the trend of showing off personal achievements that is booming among young people on social media with a short post consisting of a photo and the caption: "The youngest professional military officer with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in Vietnam."

Ánh Viên posted a picture of herself in military uniform and announced that she had been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel effective July 5, 2023.

Ánh Viên was selected and trained by the National Defense Sports Center 4 (under Military Region 9) from the age of 10. In early 2012, the General Staff transferred Ánh Viên's service status from defense employee to professional soldier with the rank of First Lieutenant. At that time, Ánh Viên was only 19 years old.

The female athlete, nicknamed "Little Mermaid," held the rank of Major before deciding to retire from competitive swimming and leave the Vietnamese national swimming team.

Ánh Viên has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the professional military.

Nguyen Thi Anh Vien has won 25 SEA Games gold medals. She is one of the iconic athletes of Vietnamese sports in the regional arena.

After enduring immense pressure from declining performance and form, the pride of Vietnamese swimming decided to end her dream of contributing to national sports. Ánh Viên's decision to retire from top-level competition at the age of 26 leaves many sports fans in general, and swimming fans in particular, with a sense of regret.

In May 2023, Anh Vien attended the opening ceremony of a free swimming class for children in Ho Chi Minh City. At the same time, the former swimmer will continue to serve as an ambassador for the drowning prevention program for children organized by the Central Youth Union and the Central Children's Council.
