Apple used to delight millions of tech fans every time they unboxed an iPhone thanks to the two included Apple logo stickers, but from the iPhone 16 generation onwards, this iconic gift was officially discontinued after nearly two decades.

Few people know that the first Apple stickers appeared in the late 1970s with the Apple II computer, becoming a distinctive part of the company's culture even before the first iPhone was released in 2007.

Throughout its 17 years of selling iPhones, Apple has consistently maintained the tradition of giving away free stickers as an extremely clever way to promote its brand. Users can stick the Apple logo on their laptops, suitcases, cars, or even desks to show off their "Apple status."

However, starting in 2024, Apple began removing stickers from product boxes as part of its strategy to use 100% fiber-based packaging and minimize single-use plastics throughout its global supply chain.

The first device to remove the sticker was the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset, followed by the iPad Pro M4, the new iPad Air, and finally the entire iPhone 16 lineup, ushering in Apple's most aggressive "green" packaging phase to date.

According to calculations from technology analysts, simply removing the two stickers from each iPhone box would help Apple cut approximately 400 tons of unnecessary plastic, contributing to the realization of its carbon neutrality goal by 2030.

This move reminds many of when Apple removed the charger from the iPhone 12 box in 2020, when the company claimed that shrinking the packaging helped increase the number of products shipped per pallet by more than 70% and reduced emissions equivalent to hundreds of thousands of cars per year.

While the disappearance of Apple stickers has left many loyal fans disappointed, it also shows that the tech industry is entering an era where even the smallest details in product packaging must serve the needs of the environment, shipping costs, and global sustainability.
