| Apple has released an emergency security patch for iPhones and iPads. |
Accordingly, tech giant Apple has just released the Quick Security Response updates for iOS 16.5.1 and iPadOS 16.5.1 to patch the WebKit vulnerability currently being actively exploited by hackers. In particular, since WebKit is the browser engine used by Safari, users need to install the new updates immediately to ensure their devices are protected.
Users simply need to follow the same procedure as a regular update: Navigate to Settings > General > Select Software Update and follow the instructions provided. The entire security update process only takes a few minutes.
Apple lists these updates as iOS 16.5.1(a) and iPadOS 16.5.1(a) to indicate they are separate releases designed to address issues with previous versions that launched on June 21.
Tech giant Apple has acknowledged that a WebKit vulnerability could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code by manipulating website content on targeted devices. It remains unclear whether any personal data has been compromised.
In addition to iPhones and iPads, Mac users running macOS Ventura 13.4.1 are also receiving a Quick Security Response update to address a similar vulnerability in the Safari browser. To install the update on a Mac, users should go to the Apple menu > Select System Settings > Click General > Select Software Update.
Apple's proactive release of updates ensures that critical security vulnerabilities are addressed promptly, protecting user data and maintaining the overall security of their devices.
