US President Donald Trump said he has asked Apple to refrain from building more factories in India and instead expand operations in the US.

US President Donald Trump has just attracted attention when he announced that he has asked Apple to stop moving iPhone production to India and instead expand operations in the US.

During a recent meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook in Qatar, Mr. Trump said he had asked Apple to limit the construction of additional factories in India, a country that is emerging as a new production center for the technology company.

According to Mr. Trump, after the discussion, Apple agreed to increase production in the US instead of continuing to boost operations abroad. This is part of the effort to promote domestic industry in the US, a long-standing policy that Mr. Trump has repeatedly emphasized during his presidency.

In recent years, Apple has been actively diversifying its supply chain and reducing its dependence on China, which still accounts for the majority of global iPhone production. India has become a strategic destination thanks to its competitive labor costs and the government 's policies to attract investment.

However, Mr. Trump said that India is applying high tariffs, making it difficult for American goods to penetrate the domestic market.

However, according to him, New Delhi has recently offered to remove some tariffs on imports from the US in order to move towards a bilateral trade deal.

Apple assembled about $22 billion worth of iPhones in India in the 12 months to March 2025, up nearly 60% from the previous period, according to Bloomberg. Most of the products were assembled at Foxconn's factory in Tamil Nadu state.

Additionally, Tata Group, India's multi-industry conglomerate, also plays an important role after taking over operations from partners such as Wistron and Pegatron.

Apple had aimed to supply the majority of iPhones for the US market from factories in India by the end of 2025.

However, with Mr. Trump's recent statements, the trend of "returning to America" in manufacturing may once again become a big topic for technology corporations next year./.
