According to TheVerge , the contact card feature in iOS 17 has been refreshed with a feature called posters that turns the contact card into a full-screen image displayed on the recipient's iPhone when you call them. It uses a similar design language to the recently redesigned lock screen, with bold font options and the ability to add Memoji, and works with third-party VoIP apps.
iOS 17 was introduced at WWDC 2023.
Additionally, there's a new live transcription feature for voicemail that lets users see a recording of the message the caller is leaving in real time. Users can choose to make or receive the call, and everything is processed on the device.
Some of the messaging updates in iOS 17 also include the ability to filter searches using additional phrases, a feature to jump to the most recent message for easier tracking, voicemail recording, and a range of features that allow you to share your location and status directly with others. It can automatically send messages to friends when you get home and can share your cellular service status and battery level to help avoid confusion if you're in an area with no signal.
Stickers have been overhauled, allowing users to add any emoji to iMessages or anywhere in the system. Live photos can also be converted into animated stickers, and users can add effects to the stickers.
Additionally, AirDrop has added a contact sending feature called NameDrop, allowing you to send selected email addresses and phone numbers simply by placing two iPhones close together. It also works between iPhones and Apple Watches, where photos can be shared in a similar way.
The new Standby mode in iOS 17 will work while your iPhone is charging.
iOS 17 also includes improvements to keyboard auto-correction. This feature now relies on a new language model for greater accuracy, plus an easier shortcut to revert to the original word the user typed if needed. Dictation also uses a new AI model for better performance.
A new app called Journal will automatically suggest moments that users might want to record in a journal entry. User entries can include photos and activities, and users can schedule reminders for themselves to write in the journal. It is also end-to-end encrypted for enhanced security.
StandBy is a new charging mode that transforms the screen into a status display tool with the date and time. It can display information from Live Activities, widgets, and smart stacks, and automatically turns on when the phone is in landscape mode while charging.
Finally, Siri has also been enhanced and now allows users to omit "Hey" from "Hey Siri" when they want to issue commands.
The official version of iOS 17 is expected to be released to end users this fall.
