Bac Giang proactively prepares for the summer-autumn crop season.

QTO - In the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop season, the first crop after the administrative unit merger, Bac Gianh ward achieved comprehensive success with rice yields reaching nearly 60 quintals/hectare, almost 3 quintals/hectare higher than the previous season. However, entering the summer-autumn crop season, the locality continues to face many difficulties regarding weather, water resources, and production costs. In light of this reality, Bac Gianh is proactively implementing various solutions to ensure efficient and sustainable production.

Along with the key and urgent tasks following the administrative unit merger, for agricultural production, Bac Gianh is focusing on reviewing all rice and crop areas, and on that basis, promptly issuing a resolution on promoting agricultural development towards clean agriculture, organic agriculture, and building OCOP products in the 2026-2030 period.

Playing a key role in agricultural production, rice cultivation receives significant investment in both yield and quality. Several organic rice production models in the Dien Phuc and Don Sa residential areas have initially proven effective, achieving yields of 60 quintals/hectare. This is considered a promising direction, contributing to increased production value and sustainable agricultural development.

Although this year's winter-spring crop yielded many positive results, Bac Gianh ward is not complacent as it enters the summer-autumn season, a period predicted to face many difficulties such as unpredictable weather, prolonged heatwaves, and rising input costs and production service prices. In light of this reality, the locality is proactively implementing various solutions to ensure efficient production.

As an area located at the downstream end of the irrigation system that carries water from Vuc Tron, Bac Gianh must proactively utilize all available water sources to ensure water for the summer-autumn crop. However, many areas still lack water, which is insufficient for the summer-autumn crop.

“For rice-growing areas that frequently suffer from water shortages, we are reviewing and developing plans to convert them to other crops such as peanuts, corn, and potatoes… In addition, abandoned land areas and 5% land with production potential are also being surveyed and managed for long-term lease to maximize land use efficiency,” said Mr. Tran Trung Lam, Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Planning Department of Bac Gianh Ward.

Following a successful winter-spring crop, Mr. Pham Van Khoa's family in Dinh residential area is urgently starting production for the summer-autumn crop. Despite concerns about the lower winter-spring rice prices compared to 2025, preparations for the new crop have been largely completed on their 0.5-hectare plot.

“Currently, the prices of some machinery and fertilizers have increased. Regarding irrigation water, because we are at the end of the supply line, we mainly rely on the pumping stations of the ward. Despite many difficulties, the family is still trying to maintain production,” Mr. Khoa shared.

Faced with the difficulties of the summer-autumn crop season and the concerns of farmers, Bac Gianh ward is continuing to implement a comprehensive range of solutions to support and share the difficulties with the people. Among these, immediate solutions such as subsidizing seed prices, investing in upgrading and dredging the irrigation canal system to ensure a reliable water supply are being actively implemented.

However, according to Tran Trung Lam, Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Planning Department of Bac Gianh Ward, in the context of agricultural production in general, and rice cultivation in particular, constantly facing the recurring problem of "bumper harvests leading to falling prices" and rising input costs, developing agricultural production and shifting towards clean, organic, and circular products is a sustainable direction.

This is one of the key tasks identified in the resolution of the Bac Gianh Ward Party Committee. This direction must stem from market demand, along with forecasting, gathering information, and understanding market fluctuations to adjust the production structure, ensure stable consumption, and bring sustainable benefits to farmers.

“The locality will continue to orient agricultural development towards clean, organic, and sustainable practices, linked with the restructuring of the agricultural sector. This includes focusing on planning suitable production areas, effectively transforming crop structures, promoting the application of science and technology, replicating clean production models, and strengthening linkages between farmers, cooperatives, and businesses to enhance the value of agricultural products and stabilize output for the people,” added Ms. Dinh Thi Ngoc Lan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Bac Gianh Ward.

Building on the positive results of the winter-spring crop and proactively addressing the challenges of the summer-autumn crop, Bac Giang is gradually laying the foundation for a more adaptable, efficient, and sustainable agricultural sector.
