According to new regulations from the Traffic Police Department, starting in May 2026, before taking the driving test, students must watch videos of serious traffic accidents. This new regulation is not simply an addition to the testing process but aims to help learners understand the consequences of traffic violations, fostering responsibility and appropriate behavior from the very beginning of their training.
In mid-May 2026, at the Tung Linh Private Vocational Training Center (Dong Kinh Ward), more than 250 students were gathered to watch videos of serious traffic accidents before entering the examination room. Similarly, at the motorcycle and scooter driving test area of the Minh Long Driving Training and Testing Center located at Lang Son Vocational College, hundreds of students, while waiting to take the theory test, were also shown videos of accidents involving motorcycle and scooter drivers.

The videos focus on common traffic violations such as running red lights, unsafe lane changes, illegal overtaking, speeding, drunk driving, failing to maintain a safe distance, driving in the wrong lane, or failing to pay attention to the blind spots of trucks. Each situation is followed by an analysis of the cause of the accident, its consequences, and the legal responsibility of the driver.
Ms. Dao Huyen Trang from Tam Thanh ward said: "These real-life images have helped me better understand the importance of complying with traffic rules. It's not just about passing the driving test; drivers need to understand that every violation can endanger themselves and those around them."
According to new regulations from the Traffic Police Department, the screening of traffic accident warning videos before driving tests will be applied nationwide from May 2026. In Lang Son, the Traffic Police Department proactively implemented this regulation from April 2026. To date, nearly 2,400 trainees participating in 9 driving tests have watched these traffic accident warning videos.
Captain Vu Tuan Hung, Deputy Head of the Driving License Examination Team, Traffic Police Department, Provincial Police, said: In addition to guiding students to install the VNeTraffic application, showing videos of traffic accidents is a new content included in the examinations to help students understand the consequences of violations, raise awareness of law compliance, and practice safe and responsible traffic participation skills.
According to traffic police statistics, approximately 90% of traffic accidents are caused by driver error. Among these, errors such as failing to reduce speed, not maintaining a safe distance, driving in the wrong lane, and improper overtaking remain high. Traffic accidents stem not only from a lack of driving skills but also from a lack of awareness and adherence to traffic laws. Therefore, along with improving the quality of driving tests, driver training is gradually shifting its focus from "teaching driving" to "training responsible road users."
In recent times, the management of driver training and testing in the province has seen many positive changes. Inspection and supervision have been strengthened to ensure transparency and openness. Along with improving the quality of driver training, training facilities have paid more attention to educating students on traffic law compliance and practical situation handling skills.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen, Deputy Director of Minh Long Driving Training and Testing Center, the requirements for driving students today are not only about skillfully operating a vehicle but also about having awareness and responsibility when participating in traffic. Therefore, in addition to the prescribed training program, the center strengthens the integration of real-life traffic situations and videos of traffic accidents into the teaching process so that students can identify risks, understand the consequences of violations, and form the habit of obeying the law from the very beginning of their driving training.
From the beginning of 2026 to the present, the entire province has organized 58 driving tests, including 39 for cars and 19 for motorcycles. Out of nearly 14,800 candidates, over 9,400 passed, accounting for nearly 64%; over 5,300 failed, accounting for over 36%. These figures show that the requirements for learning to drive are increasingly high. However, the ultimate goal is not about the pass or fail rate, but about creating drivers who are competent, aware, and responsible when participating in traffic.
From videos of traffic accidents to new regulations in training and testing, the ultimate goal is to help everyone better understand the value of safety. Because behind every peaceful journey begins the awareness and responsibility of the driver.
