The farm model of the Bui Van Cat family (on the left), a war veteran, in Song Lo commune, Viet Tri city, generates high income.
Emphasize the pioneering and exemplary role.
Following an introduction from the Chairman of the Veterans Association of Song Lo commune, Viet Tri city, we visited the economic development model of veteran Bui Van Cat in Zone 4 - one of the exemplary veterans in the local emulation movement for excellent economic development.
In 2012, veteran Bui Van Cat boldly borrowed capital and invested over 1 billion VND to reclaim barren land and develop a farm model. He chose the pink Cavendish banana and the Thai Cavendish banana, believing these two varieties grow and develop well, are suitable for the local natural conditions, and especially yield high productivity and stable commercial value. Traders from within and outside the province trust these varieties and place orders directly with him.
In 2015, building on the success of the model, veteran Bui Van Cat continued to expand his orchard to plant Dien pomelos. Thanks to his diligent learning and accumulation of experience from successful pomelo cultivation models, his family's Dien pomelo orchard produces high-quality fruit. To date, veteran Bui Van Cat's family owns nearly 2 hectares of banana plantations and nearly 600 Dien pomelo trees, along with over 1.2 hectares of fish ponds. In addition, he has developed a fishing pond service model that attracts many visitors. From this farm model, veteran Bui Van Cat's family earns an income of 400-500 million VND per year. Being enthusiastic and responsible, he also regularly helps and shares his experience with members and local people to develop their economy and legitimately enrich themselves on their homeland.
Recognizing participation in building new rural areas as one of the important tasks, the Veterans' Associations at all levels in the province regularly propagate and mobilize members to actively participate in movements and activities launched by the Association and localities, including many exemplary units such as: the Veterans' Association of Cao Xa commune (Lam Thao district), the Veterans' Association of Dan Quyen commune (Tam Nong district), the Veterans' Association of Son Hung commune (Thanh Son district)...
Mr. Dang Hong Tuyen, Chairman of the Veterans Association of Dan Quyen commune (Tam Nong district), reported: Over the years, veteran members in the commune have consistently set a good example, mobilizing their families and relatives to donate land and assets to build rural roads and public works. The association also maintains self-managed veteran-run roads, regularly coordinating with other associations and organizations to clean up the environment; educating members and residents on collecting and sorting household waste; and planting many trees to contribute to environmental protection and create a green, clean, and beautiful landscape. At the same time, they effectively implement the "All People Unite to Build a Culturally Rich Life in Residential Areas" campaign, and adhere to regulations contributing to building a civilized lifestyle in the locality. Annually, over 96% of veteran members in Dan Quyen commune are exemplary members, and 96% of member households achieve the status of "Culturally Rich Family."
As of the end of October 2024, outstanding entrusted loans through the Veterans Association reached over 1,476 billion VND, with 897 Savings and Loan groups providing loans to 26,792 member households for production and business development. To date, the province has 254 small and medium-sized enterprises, 54 cooperatives, 3 cooperative groups, 2,850 farms and family farms, and over 4,300 business households owned by veterans, creating jobs for thousands of workers, many of whom are members or family members of veterans. During the year, the Association at all levels supported the construction and repair of 70 temporary or dilapidated houses for veteran families in difficult circumstances, contributing to improving the lives of its members.
The section of road managed by the Veterans' Association in Zone 6, Dan Quyen Commune, Tam Nong District, has been planted with flowers and trees, creating a green, clean, and beautiful landscape.
Affirming the role of the Veterans Association
Through various methods, forms, and practical approaches, over the years, the Veterans' Associations at all levels have promptly disseminated and educated members on the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws, and the political tasks of the locality and the Association; they have also innovated methods of information transmission to enhance the effectiveness of propaganda, promptly guide the thinking of cadres and members, and contribute to building a cleaner and stronger association...
According to Colonel Ha Ba Linh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Veterans Association: In 2024, the province admitted 1,440 new members, bringing the total number of veterans in the province to 116,223, with 316 grassroots associations. The activities of the Veterans Association at all levels are constantly innovating, focusing on key areas and orienting towards the grassroots; at the same time, promoting emulation movements to enhance the role of veterans in all fields. Veterans members unite and work together to develop family economies, contributing to poverty reduction, building new rural areas, and creating civilized urban areas.
Actively participating in social, humanitarian, and charitable activities, the Veterans Association at all levels has donated over 9,500 gifts worth nearly 3 billion VND to policy beneficiaries, meritorious individuals, and veteran members with difficult circumstances or serious illnesses on the occasion of the Lunar New Year and the War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27th. The Provincial Veterans Association has allocated funds from the Veterans' Solidarity Fund and also received and distributed donations from the Vietnam Veterans Association to members affected by Typhoon Yagi. In addition, veteran officials and members enthusiastically participate in maintaining local security and order, setting a good example in educating their children and grandchildren, instilling patriotic traditions in the younger generation, and building culturally exemplary families.
To further enhance the effectiveness of emulation movements and improve the quality of the Association's activities, the Provincial Veterans Association directs all levels of the Association to continue to thoroughly understand and implement resolutions and directives from higher levels; at the same time, to promote propaganda and launch emulation movements among all members; encourage cadres and members to focus on developing family economies; promote the spirit of mutual support and enthusiastic sharing to help disadvantaged veterans rise in life, contributing to consolidating and building a strong Association organization, and successfully fulfilling the requirements and tasks in the new situation. From there, the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers will shine brightly in the veteran force throughout the province.
