Four-way cooperation - a timely and widespread support system.
The Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association raised the issue of "raising it to a new level" in the context of the Politburo's issuance of Resolution No. 41-NQ/TW, which contains many new contents regarding the viewpoints, orientations, and solutions for developing the Vietnamese business community in the new era. In particular, Resolution 41 also addresses the issue of "Promoting the role of press agencies in informing, publicizing, and encouraging the Vietnamese business community." This once again affirms the Party and State's viewpoint on the important role of the press in developing the business community, enterprises, and the country's economic development.
It is worth remembering that on July 25, 2023, the signing ceremony of the cooperation program between four agencies: the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications , the Vietnam Journalists Association, and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI)... can be considered an important milestone, a commitment of the Party and State to support the business community and journalists, and also the basis for the successful implementation of the cooperation program's contents and achievement of the set goals.
With the joint efforts of four agencies, the collaborative program, with its specific and useful "commitments," has created new conditions and impetus for cooperation between the Vietnamese business community and the press and media, aiming for shared success and contributing to the grand goal of making Vietnam a developed, high-income, prosperous, and happy nation by 2045.
The signing ceremony for the cooperation program between four agencies: the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists Association, and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) took place on July 25, 2023.
The content of the collaborative program between the four agencies aims to create a close and trustworthy relationship between the press and businesses. This includes a commitment to surveying and evaluating the media environment to promote business development; disseminating the spirit and culture of business from exemplary "Vietnamese entrepreneurs"; supporting media agencies in digital transformation; providing economic training for media leaders and reporters/editor-ins; training businesses and entrepreneurs in media relations; establishing a coordination mechanism between the four agencies to receive and process media-business relations, creating a healthy and fair media environment to promote business development. Other appropriate activities will be implemented based on initiatives, proposals, and the consensus of all parties involved.
In fact, in 2024, under the direction of the Vietnam Journalists Association and VCCI, press agencies and related units organized press forums accompanying businesses, such as the "Press - Business Partnership for Sustainable Development 2024" forum and the "Creative Press - Enhancing Communication for Units and Businesses" forum.
In particular, at the 2024 National Press Conference, within the framework of the 2024 National Press Forum, the Vietnam Journalists Association dedicated a special session to the theme "Effective Cooperation Models between Journalism, Businesses, and Advertising Agencies." For the first time, representatives from journalism, businesses, and advertising companies sat down together to discuss the possibility of cooperation to promote brands and support journalism…
And for the first time, the 2024 National Press Conference has included a display of OCOP products, with nearly 70 booths from many provinces and cities… In addition to the booths displaying press publications at the National Press Conference, the Journalists' Associations of provinces and cities have coordinated with local departments and agencies to participate in booths displaying and selling OCOP products.
This is a new activity at the 2024 National Press Conference, but it has received attention from localities in promoting and introducing characteristic products of each region and attracting a large number of people. The presence of a large number of OCOP product booths affirms the appeal and role of media and press in promoting economic development, building new rural areas, and is also a strong testament to the partnership between the press and businesses…
For lasting trust and sustainable development
Continuing the journey of building strong trust and sustainable development, Mr. Le Quoc Minh stated: “The press needs businesses, not as advertisers who can open their wallets to feed the press, but as sources of transparent and accurate information, creating high credibility for readers. Conversely, businesses need the press as neutral, strong, and effective communication channels so that their communication messages can reach the public.”
In particular, the Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association stated that since 2022, both the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Vietnam Journalists Association have prioritized ethics and culture. “We call for promoting the development of culture within media organizations. We emphasize that culture is the foundation that helps us differentiate ourselves and achieve sustainable development; we use culture as the basis for our business operations and development. VCCI and the Vietnam Journalists Association share the same perspective on cooperation, emphasizing the importance of culture,” Mr. Le Quoc Minh affirmed.
In the context of cooperation between the Vietnam Journalists Association and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), as well as between the press and businesses, according to Mr. Pham Tan Cong, President of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry, the business community, entrepreneurs, and journalists need to work together in five main areas: raising political awareness, promoting business culture and journalistic culture, disseminating policies, cooperating to improve capacity, and combating wrongdoing in business to create a healthy and fair business environment.
“Having unified principles helps identify the Vietnamese business community, creates soft power for the business community and enterprises, and generates social pressure to limit negative practices within the business world and prevent potential violations… When there is an issue related to ethics, people always have to consider whether to act or not. When actions are considered unethical by society and the entire business community, it becomes a huge obstacle that businesspeople need to carefully consider before acting…” - Mr. Pham Tan Cong emphasized.
Furthermore, experts also believe that cooperation between these two forces not only brings economic benefits but also contributes to the overall development of society, helping to build a prosperous, happy, and civilized Vietnam. One of the existing problems is that the press lacks in-depth, informative articles with new knowledge and perspectives, opening up avenues for application and solutions. At the 2024 Editors-in-Chief Forum, organized by the Vietnam Journalists Association and the Newspaper of Journalists and Public Opinion on September 21st in Phan Thiet, the discussion on "solution-oriented journalism" hit this very spot.
From the perspective of journalistic development, especially solution-oriented journalism, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, believes that the most important issue is human resource training. The vision of media organizations and the capacity of journalists writing about economics, entrepreneurs, and businesses are crucial. The emergence of solution-oriented journalism, in a way, is also a way to upgrade one's own value and relationships with businesses in the new context. In particular, Vietnam is rapidly integrating into the international community, and Vietnamese businesses are still unfamiliar with international trade laws and technical barriers. In this context, how can the press support Vietnamese businesses? This is the question that business leaders have been demanding and expecting from the media in the coming journey.
It can be said that policies and specific actions have created a "new impetus" for the "upgraded" partnership in practice, contributing to a stronger and deeper mutual trust between the press and businesses. In particular, the four-party cooperation commitments, especially the cooperation between the Vietnam Journalists Association and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), will continue to be commitments that further promote the spirit of "sharing hardships and joys" between the press and businesses in the new context.
