After the Vietnamese national team was eliminated from the group stage of the 2023 Asian Cup due to losses to Indonesia and Iraq, stemming from unnecessary red cards and penalties, fans questioned the need for referees to officiate better, more strictly, and more according to the rules in domestic competitions.

Now, witnessing the success of referees from the Southeast Asian region at the ongoing Asian Championship in Qatar, while Vietnamese referees have no place in the tournament, the quality of Vietnamese referees once again leaves football fans in the country sighing in disappointment.
