PSG suffered a crushing defeat to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final. Early morning on July 14, PSG lost to Chelsea 0-3 in the match to decide the Club World Cup title.

Paris Saint-Germain not only lost the match, but also lost its image after a 0-3 defeat to Chelsea in the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. When the final whistle blew at MetLife Stadium, tensions immediately erupted between the players of the two teams, leading to a noisy brawl, with coach Luis Enrique at the center.

While Andrey Santos and Achraf Hakimi were arguing, Chelsea striker Joao Pedro came to intervene but was suddenly hit by Enrique, falling to the ground and holding his face in pain. Television footage showed Enrique touching Joao Pedro's neck during the argument, causing the player to fall, sparking a wave of fierce criticism.

RMC Sport did not hesitate to call it a “disgusting gesture” and strongly condemned the Spanish coach’s lack of restraint. In addition, RMC also criticized PSG midfielder Joao Neves’s hair-grabbing of defender Marc Cucurella, an act that earned the young player a straight red card in the 85th minute - a card that could have been completely avoided.

Meanwhile, L'Équipe described the incident as a "head-on clash" between Enrique and Pedro, saying the PSG coach grabbed the Chelsea player by the neck during the chaos. The French newspaper also noted the tension between the players, with Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakimi repeatedly exchanging words with Joao Pedro, before Enrique intervened and the incident spiralled out of control.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Enrique tried to explain: “I tried to stop my players from fighting. It was an avoidable situation, I'm sure. There was a lot of pushing and shoving going on.”

However, this justification does not seem to appease the wave of criticism from the media and fans.

Enrique’s outburst came at a sensitive time, as PSG had just had a successful season, winning the domestic double, winning the Champions League and reaching the Club World Cup final. But in the final minutes of the season, everything was overshadowed by the ugly scene at MetLife Stadium.

The crushing defeat to Chelsea not only cost PSG the chance to reach the top of the world, but also created a serious image scar. With Enrique, the talented strategist who was highly praised, he is now facing a wave of criticism for his lack of control in a match watched by hundreds of millions of people around the world.
