Protecting the "green zone"

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Information about counterfeit medicines and food products is increasing. The problem of counterfeit goods in these extremely essential areas is not only present in local markets and private pharmacies, but has also infiltrated hospitals and supermarkets.

Evidence of this can be seen in the recent cases involving large quantities of counterfeit drugs and fake dietary supplements that have been busted by authorities. According to the pharmaceutical and food safety management agency, some of these discovered drugs, foods, and dietary supplements contain toxic ingredients and substances prohibited from circulation.

Sadly, however, as soon as this case was closed, the criminal organization resurfaced. Numerous localities have been designated "red zones" for unsafe practices, with uncontrolled markets for pharmaceuticals and food.

According to a report by the Provincial People's Committee at a recent working session with the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Social Affairs' survey team on the implementation of policies and laws on preventing and combating counterfeit drugs and food in Thanh Hoa province: From January 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025, no counterfeit drug production facilities were detected in the province through inspections and monitoring. Regarding pharmaceutical businesses, 15 cases of buying and selling counterfeit drugs or drugs of unknown origin were discovered. In the field of food safety management, no counterfeit food production facilities were detected in the province. Regarding businesses, 4 cases of buying and selling counterfeit food were detected.

In recent times, Thanh Hoa province has been fiercely combating the problem of counterfeit medicines, food, and dietary supplements. However, given the complex nature of the production and sale of counterfeit medicines, food, and dietary supplements, the fight against counterfeit goods will remain difficult as the methods and actions of perpetrators are becoming increasingly sophisticated and audacious.

To maintain the achievements already made, protecting the "green zone" of safety for pharmaceuticals, food, and functional foods is an extremely important task. More than ever, it requires raising awareness and responsibility from management agencies, local authorities, and consumers to implement appropriate measures to combat counterfeit goods, in line with the spirit requested by the head of the Government : resolutely declaring war on counterfeit goods, fighting regularly with the spirit of "every day is a peak period," sweeping away counterfeit medicines and food; every citizen is both a soldier in the fight against smuggling, commercial fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property infringement, and a smart consumer in the market.
